Ensembles are a regular affair with musicians who are into Jazz and Blues. It is like a family of drummers, bass players and vocalists who maintain a chain and run a community of sorts. The Suspects is one of them. The five-piece group will be showcasing their brand of Neo-Soul and Jazz at a gig tonight. The spotlight will be on Andrea Tariang -- one of the vocalists (from Shillong) -- who became popular after appearing in the film, Pink, last year.

"We are still very fresh. This is our second official gig. Earlier, we would have jam sessions at IBar in Bandra. A month ago, we played a full set at Summerhouse Café, but we had a different drummer and keyboardist," shares Nathan Thomas, the bassist and steady member of the group.

Their line-up is decided on the availability of members. "Last time, Vincent Tariang (Andrea's brother and drummer of Soulmate) was in town. He ended up playing the drums for us. This time, we have Dhir Mody," he says. Andrea's father, Rudy Wallang, is guitarist for Soulmate.

The band will cover songs by Anderson Paak and D'Angelo and play their originals. "We are yet to name our songs. The tunes emerged from random jam sessions. We will be improvising a lot on stage. The songs were composed with Karan Joseph, the pianist," shares Nathan.

Andrea, who is into a lot of RnB and Soul, used to play with a band called Lavender Groove in Shillong before moving to Mumbai.

Did Pink help her bag more gigs? "Actually not. And I don't think she wants that either. This is a separate entity for her. She has a great voice and can blend genres well. She feels the song while performing," says Nathan, who also plays the bass with famed singer Nikhil D'Souza.
