A performance space in Mahalaxmi throws open its doors to gigs by upcoming musicians and artistes
Desiree and Joel
Over the past year, Mumbai has witnessed the mushrooming of multi-disciplinary venues. G5A in Mahalaxmi was added to the map last year, and since has been hosting a series of art and culture events to start new dialogues across mediums, whether art, music, design or film.
The organisers believe that when combined with food, different art forms can reach a whole new audience. To this end, they have organised 12 monthly performances called LIVE at PORT, at their home-style café. Their mission is to support young, non-mainstream artists. The series will kick off tomorrow with Jazz, R&B, Soul and Blues music from artistes Joel and Desiree, and Muriel Dias.

"We wish to support young and upcoming artistes at G5A, across mediums. The venue serves as a platform and cultural centre for the like-minded and independent artistes to connect and start a dialogue in an informal setup," says Suruchi Pawar, manager, programmes.
The event will be held every second Friday of the month. There are plans to include spoken word and short story sessions, too. G5A will also host Vinyl Sundays for those interested in combining their love for nostalgia and music.
