Dance artist and theorist late Rudolf Laban, hailed as one of the pioneers of modern dance in Europe, will have a hand in an upcoming theatre workshop in the city.
The Mumbai Assembly, in association with Shapeshift will present Laban Movement for the Actor, a physical theatre workshop by Faezeh Jalali.
It will focus on the works of Laban who created a movement vocabulary that can be articulated and hence executed with a deeper understanding of one's body and of human movement.
It can be applied both to text and in physical story-telling. Jalali throws light on what to expect, "With Laban work, an actor/dancer/mover can break down a movement into its component parts for cleaner and more precise execution.
Participants will use âcontinuums' and âefforts', and apply them to the voice and body to create, explore and discover, characters and scenes in depth and with precision."
