Many times, I would get into my car and drive around the block multiple times to convince myself to walk through the door

"Many times, I would get into my car and drive around the block multiple times to convince myself to walk through the door. Sometimes, I would walk in and the whole office would look at me at the same time. I stumbled my way through it," says Sara Blakely, CEO of Spanx. NPR's latest show, How I Built This, has entrepreneurs talking about their business, including starting from scratch and their initial struggles.

Host Guy Raz gets insight into the making of the world's best-known companies like Instagram, Vice and Clifbar to name a few. "When I was selling fax machines door-to-door, I felt I was in a wrong movie. I felt determined to create a better life for myself. I've never sewn, I have never taken a business class in my life, I didn't know anybody that worked in fashion and retail," adds Blakely. Doors were slammed on her face and experts in women's hosiery dismissed her ideas but she proved them wrong.

In this 30-minute riveting podcast, the moguls focus on their struggles. "Share something that people love and make sure that they feel great sharing it," says Kevin Systrom (co-founder of Instagram), (left in picture) summing up the idea behind the medium. The tales of transforming the root of an idea into effective trade reached the top of US iTunes podcast chart recently.
