Theatre lovers can make a beeline to watch Timeboy and A Peasant of El Salvador, two plays by theatre production company Act One Scene One, which are being staged in Pune. Kartiki Nitin Lawate tells you more
A Peasant of El Salvador
Timeboy
The play, Timeboy, features a blend of technology and science. The adventurous English-Hindi children's play by Act One Scene One is being staged for the first time in the city. The play narrates the story of Murli, a 7-year-old restless penguin who desperately wants to know who he will turn out to be when he grows up.

But time becomes a hurdle, and he is unable to wait to know what his future holds. Further, his friends Sammy, the duckling, and Rohan, the Zebra, join him in this quest to fight with time.

One fine day, he comes up with a nifty idea of building a time machine through which he can quickly take a journey to his future and becomes Timeboy.
The play is directed by Makrand Deshpande and is written by Nivedita Pohankar. Timeboy is associated with Cuddles Foundation which is an NGO that provides nutrition to cancer-afflicted children. Part of the proceeds from the play will go to these cancer- afflicted children. There will also be a 20% discount for senior citizens and Indian Armed Forces personnel.

A Peasant of El Salvador
A Peasant of El Salvador is based on the story of a Central American peasant. It is an English comedy which narrates the story of a farmer and his family during the time of the civil unrest in 1989.
The peasant has a big family, a big heart and a small piece of land and the family faces many hardships during the unrest. The man waits for his time to take a turn, accepting all the atrocities like land reforms, repression, guerilla warfare, death squads, and dictatorship.
Years later, he finds his voice at a historical event that shook the world. The story is woven by three narrators and the plot takes you through the mountains of Central America.
Director Quasar Thakore Padamsee, says, "It is a beautiful story told with humour which is exciting. The story is based on a true historical event which has a lot of similarities to Indian culture. The happenings in the play are relevant in some way or the other.
I had to do research on the place and about its culture before making the play. But it was fun to know that there is a place which has some things similar to India, even though it's geographically far away."
The play is written by Peter Gould and Stephen Stearns and is supported by actors like Meher Acharia-Dar, Suhaas Ahuja and Pramod Pathak.
