A new theatre piece deals with topics no one talks about — ageing and death
This weekend, catch a theatre performance like no other. Arcadia: The Promised Land, directed by Omkar Bhatkar, deals with gerontology, or the process of ageing.
"Ageing is a dark theme, one which we don't usually talk about. For this theatre piece, I spoke to ageing people to understand how the process transforms them," says Bhatkar. The result is a collection of about 15 poems, written from these very real experiences, which will be performed on stage by eight actors.
"We decided to convert these experiences into poems, as poetry is a nicer way of narrating a harsh truth," he adds. The 70-minute performance will deal with the various aspects of ageing and death, and will be accompanied by guitar music.
The piece opened last weekend at Havana Café & Bar in Colaba, the city's newest performance venue.
