Watch a selection of movies on women’s empowerment as part of the fifth Women’s Film Festival
On the occasion of International Women's Day, Aayam, Aashay Film Club and NFAI have jointly organised the fifth Women's Film Festival.
This year, the films that will be screened are adapted by novels written by women authors.
Manaswini Prabhune, co-ordinator, Aayam, says, "Aayam, as a group of women journalists, intends to bring issues related to women to the fore by various means. We believe that the visual media is very effective in reaching out to people, thus, the idea of holding the film festival.''
The event will include films that are based on works by authors such as Margaret Mitchell, Sylvia Nasar, Alice Walker, Harper Lee, Mahadevi Verma, Mahashweta Devi, Amrita Pritam, Ismat Chughtai, Jhumpa Lahiri and Sudha Murthy, among others.
Many women authors will be present at the festival. There will be discussions and a seminar by Fulbright Scholar Esha Niyogi De.
During the three-day festival, films like To Kill A Mockingbird, A Beautiful Mind, The Color Purple, Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, The Namesake, Agnisakshi and Gone with the Wind will
be screened.
