The lavish Indian wedding spectacle has been a centerpiece of Hindi entertainment for a long time. However, what lurks behind this performative display of love has been far less examined – and Made in Heaven does exactly this – it self-reflexively explores the dark side of India’s elite

Made in Heaven follows mainly two protagonists – Tara, who by marrying business tycoon Adil Khanna, has ascended the ladder of social mobility and Karan, a closeted gay man who is grappling with the emotional consequences of hiding part of his identity. Tara and Karan are founder-partners of Made in Heaven – a Delhi-based wedding consultancy and planning agency, who are tasked with designing and selling ‘heaven’ to their uber-rich clientele

Each episode follows a different wedding - and has overtones of social commentary. The show uses the cultural subtext of each wedding to delve deeper into Tara and Karan’s private landscapes. Jim Sarbh plays Adil Khanna, Tara's husband and the main investor of their agency, 'Made in Heaven'

Kalki Koechlin plays Faiza, Tara's best friend in the show. She is a native elite-born and plays a dual-edged role in the series - on the one hand inducting Tara into an unfamiliar and insular privileged world as an 'insider,' and also damaging her marriage by cheating with Adil

Shashank Arora plays wedding photographer and cinematographer Kabir, who also acts as the moral voice and anchor of the show

Shivani Raghuvansi plays Jaspreet Kaur - also an outsider to the elite world like Tara. She nicknames herself 'Jazz' in an attempt to fit into new and strange upper echelons of society, and bubbly and frank personality emerges as a sincere and refreshing voice

The show features extended, ornate sequences of planning weddings - right from scouting venues to planning decor and styling the groom and bride. We couldn't help but we drawn to these visual delights onscreen and there's a reason why! The production team meticulously worked around the clock to design sets - right down to the wedding invitations featured in each episode. They tailored the aesthetic of each wedding according to the ethos of the episode, s well as the tastes and sensibilities of the couples featured

Shibani and Shashank have previously also worked in 'Titli.' No wonder their slow-burning chemistry is blossoming organically on-screen!

One of the brides in 'Made in Heaven' is played by Shweta Tripathi. The actress also appeared in another highly acclaimed Amazon Prime Video original, 'Mirzapur'

Jim Sarbh was always the first choice of the 'Made in Heaven' team to play the highly shaded and ambivalent Adil Khanna. Once it became clear that he would be available to play the role, the shoot reschedule was shuffled around to accomodate his dates. Jim Sarbh (as well as Kalki) perfectly grew into their grey characters. Faiza is not merely the ‘other woman’ to Adil’s ‘philanderer’ – all characters are stripped down and exposed in their vulnerabilities and conflicting loyalties
– making not only them but the portrayal of modern love and marriage in India immensely realistic (we know, you are hooked, what are you waiting for if you haven't watched Season 1 yet?)

In one of the episodes, Tara flies into a rage and wrecks Faiza's home for betraying her trust. Faiza's mirror is still brokn from the events at the end of this episode in the next episode as well. The director Alankrita Shrivastava used it to know the literal and metaphorical fractured triangle between Faiza, Adil and Tara

Jazz's neighbourhood was picturized in the Khirki extension area of New Delhi. Her home location was also found in this area

Over the course of the entire first season, Faiza visits her therapist multiple times. While she confronts multiple events and emotions during these sessions, all these scenes were shot in one day - making Kalki move through her entire character arc in the span of her day

The show has been lauded for its fluid blend of plot, narrative and overtones of social commentary as well as its exquisite performances. 'Made in Heaven' is returning to Amazon Prime Video with a brand new band of brides and wedding planners in Season 2. The new season will stream on August 10

Amidst the misgivings and dirty secrets of the rich that litter the show, one relationship truly stands out – and that is Tara and Karan’s unusual and moving friendship. Business partners, friends and confidantes - their relationship was all this and more - and fans are excited to see what turn it takes

'Made in Heaven' has been a true champion for LGBTQIA+ rights. Arjun Mathur sensitively portrays Karan as he moves through his narrative arc of processing childhood trauma, familial, social and state homophobia and coming out publicly and fighting against Section 377 (which criminalized homosexuality in India up until 2018) The show also used visual markers to portray his state of mind - for instance, in the earlier episodes, he was always shown behind window bars or closed gates to metaphorically represent his closetted self

The new season also sees prominent industry faces coming on board. Mona Singh's performance in the show is especially highly anticipated. The actress has been making waves with her recent performance in 'Kafas.' With her entry into the show, audiences are speculating about the impact she will bring to the already engrossing narrative

Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju, 26-year-old trans woman doctor turned actress, is poised to make her acting debut in 'Made In Heaven Season 2' on Amazon Prime Video India. In discussing her character with Outlook India,, Trinetra revealed that she will portray a proficient wedding planner at 'Made In Heaven' overseeing grand-scale, elite weddings in Delhi. Despite her professional success, her character grapples with acceptance as a trans woman in her personal life, especially when it comes to finding love

Tune in one, tune in all, to binge watch 'Made in Heaven' Season 2 on August 10!
