Elnaaz Norouzi
Season two of the popular web series 'Made In Heaven,' by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, is set to debut on Prime Video on August 10. In a recent interview with India Today, actress Elnaaz Norouzi, who appears as a bride in the series, revealed that Zoya had initially wanted Sonam Kapoor to come onboard for her role. However, Sonam was unable to commit due to her pregnancy or scheduling conflicts.
Elnaaz, who is also known for her role in 'Sacred Games,' expressed her gratitude for being part of the series. She confessed she felt intimidated by the idea that the team might be seeking a superstar for the role. "I always say even if Zoya Akhtar asks me to play a tree in her movie, I would play the tree. There was no question for me whether to consider it or not. I was rather worried whether I would be considered or not (for Made In Heaven 2)."
"When I auditioned, I thought they must be looking for a big superstar and I was just an outsider, (I thought) I was not going to get this role. But yay! I auditioned, it was fine. I don't think Zoya Akhtar would want me. All I know is that Zoya was asking, 'Who is this girl? I don't know this girl. She is great, I want her'. So, obviously, there was no question (about saying no to it)."
The much-anticipated second season trailer was released on August 1. It follows the wedding planning escapades of Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur, among others. Returning cast members include Sobhita, Arjun, Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh, Shashank Arora, and Shivangi Rastogi, joined by new faces such as Mona Singh, Ishwak Singh, and Trinetra.
'Made in Heaven' revolves around the lives of Tara and Karan, played by Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur respectively, who run a wedding-planning agency for the uber-rich of Delhi. The show delves into societal issues such as infidelity, forced marriages, politics, casteism, and elitism that are rife in these celebrations, providing commentary on how characters navigate these circumstances.
The show has also championed LGBTQIA+ rights in its first season as well, where Karan's experience as a gay man in India were authentically and tenderly portrayed. With Trinetra coming on board for a major OTT release, we hope to see the gamut of queer lived experiences being increasingly represented in mainstream Indian entertainment.
In addition to Elnaaz, Mrunal Thakur, Radhika Apte, Shibani Dandekar, and Sarah Jane Dias will appear as brides in the new season. The internationally recognized show is a joint production of Excel Media and Entertainment and Tiger Baby, with directors Alankrita Shrivastava, Neeraj Ghaywan, Nitya Mehra, Reema Kagti, and Zoya Akhtar at the helm.
