John and Steve in a still from The Office
NBC recently announced that it will be returning with its popular sitcom 'The Office' with a spinoff series. Steve Carell and John Krasinski who played Michael Scott and Jim Halpert respectively on the show have reacted to the spin-off and the possibility of then making a cameo. While Steve confirmed he will not be making a cameo in the spinoff, John did not completely brush off the idea.
"I will be watching but I will not be showing up. It's just a new thing and there's really no reason for my character [Michael Scott] to show up in something like that," Carell told The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of his new film IF on Monday. "But I'm excited about it, it sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea - I guess it's set in a failing newspaper company, and I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads; I did [2022 series] The Patient with him and he's an excellent actor and a super nice guy so I think it'll be great."
John Krasinski who played the role of Jim Halpert, however, did not negate the possibility of featuring on the new show. While talking to People on the red carpet of his film 'IF', the actor said, "I know nothing about it, other than I think it's taking place in a newspaper, a local newspaper. Domhnall Gleeson, with whom I'm working right now, is the sweetest and most talented guy. He's gonna crush, whatever is it, he's gonna crush it."
When asked if there's any chance he'll reprise his character Jim Halpert, Krasinski explained, "No, they haven't asked, but the truth is I'd do anything Greg Daniels asked me to do."

"The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters."
"It's been more than ten years since the final episode of âThe Office' aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock," said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBCU Entertainment. "In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper."
