Aadil Khan, Kay Kay Menon and Aftab Shivdasani/PR image
From starting his career as an RJ to landing the role of Maninder Singh in Special Ops 1.5, actor Aadil Khan speaks about his big break and more.
How did you join the Special Ops cast?
Shubham the casting director for Special Ops called me and I was left awestruck. I've been a big fan of the series and binge watched it during lockdown. Back then I had no clue I would be part of this universe. I also remember speaking about it on social media, I'm big fan of Neeraj (Pandey) sir's work. I told him I would like to meet right away. They gave me a scene as part of the audition and in a day or two, I was told Neeraj sir wanted to meet me. What a beautiful memory!
How was it working with Kay Kay Menon and Aftab Shivdasani?
It was amazing. They are experienced and know their work well. They were always there to guide me, I enjoyed just observing how they view life. Aftab bhai is so positive and I haven't seen anyone like him. Kay Kay sir is brilliant, such great insight about life in general. As an actor he's legendary and has such great command over his craft. I wish I get to work with them again and learn more.
What did you love most about your character Maninder Singh?
Maninder Singh has been written really well by Neeraj sir. He has a 360 degree layering. Getting aligned with Neeraj sir's vision and performing it was amazing. The team is so sincere, always well prepared before we go on set. The action sequences were challenging, but getting appreciated was well worth it.

The OTT boom has benefited a lot of actors and writers...
OTT has become bigger than it was in 2020 and that gives a larger ground not just to actors but the crew as well. Theatres have opened as well and there's OTT so there's more work, it's fantastic.
Any roles on your wish list?
I'm living a dream, all the roles I've played have been my dream roles from Shiv Kumar Dhar (Shikara) to Maninder Singh. As an actor I want to explore my range and capacity to see how much variety I can give. I keep telling my friends I'm keen on doing a historic character, a sports film, a psycho. As an actor you are always hungry, I want it all!
