Deepika Singh A peek into the Diya Aur Baati Huma actress personal life

Born on July 26, 1989, Television actress Deepika Singh's hometown is Delhi. The actress, who rose to fame with 2011's one of the most popular shows on Television, Diya Aur Baati Hum, completed her post-graduation in Business Administration with Marketing as specialisation from Punjab Technical University before entering the telly world.

In her growing years, Deepika Singh had to come to terms with her family problems owing to her father's business suffering losses.

In a bid to help him out, as a responsible daughter, she joined her father's garments shop at Karol Bagh, Delhi. Well, the business picked up and things were smooth sailing from there.

However, despite tasting success in her family business, Deepika Singh confessed that she felt a void within her. The actress had done theatre while studying. And suddenly, it struck her that she should try acting as a profession.

"I informed my mom about my decision and came to Mumbai. As luck would have it, I went for an audition and got selected for the show. That I had bagged the lead role was something I learnt only after two months," said Deepika Singh in a candid interview with mid-day in 2013.

Deepika Singh earned huge popularity as IPS Sandhya Kothari/Sandhya Sooraj Rathi with Diya Aur Baati Hum, that ran for five years successfully. "The sudden recognition that I got was initially scary, because stardom was new to me. But being in the television industry for two years, I have learnt to handle it. Earlier I used to feel weird if someone complimented me but now I talk to my fans and also reciprocate their good wishes," said Singh.

Deepika Singh married to the show's former director Rohit Raj Goyal in May 2014. According to the actress, her character in Diya Aur Baati Hum brought about changes in her personal life.

"Sandhya has become very popular as the ideal image. Also, we have shown how a husband supports and encourages his wife to become an IPS officer. The storyline inspires each and every housewife to do something or achieve success in their lives," she said.

"This character has changed me completely. I became more mature in terms of taking decisions. I was not a fitness freak but after playing Sandhya's character, I started taking my fitness regime seriously," Deepika said.

"Now I am very much focused on my work and fitness. It has changed my attitude, looks, personality... completely," she added, who went on to participate in Box Cricket League in 2014, as a player of Delhi Dragons.

Diya Aur Baati Hum aired from August 2011 to September 2016 with a total of 1,487 episodes. During the course of time, Deepika maintained that she will remain a part of 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' until the Star Plus show goes off air.

"For me, commitment is the most important thing. I want to grow as an actor, try new things, but I don't want to leave this show and go. Once this show gets over, I will definitely try new and different roles. I will never ever leave this show till the time the show is on air. The audience loves to see me daily and that encourages me to play Sandhya's role," she said.

Within a few months, Deepika Singh and her husband Rohit Raj Goyal announced that they are expecting their first child. In May 2017, the couple was blessed with a baby boy, whom they named Soham.

The following two years (2017 to 2019) Deepika Singh essayed the role closest to her heart - a new mother revelling in the joys of motherhood.

"After my delivery, I had put on a lot of weight and wanted to get fit before accepting any project. I needed to be healthy enough to be able to work for 12-14 hours a day. So, I devoted time to become ready, mentally and physically," said Deepika, who got several offers in the interim, but her health was her priority.

After a self-imposed hiatus, Deepika Singh came back to romance the camera with Kavach Mahashivratri. Thrilled to return to acting, Singh also spoke about reporting to work after having a baby.

Women are unfortunately guilt-tripped for starting their worklike soon after delivery. When she was asked if she too faced a similar situation, Singh said, "I don't agree with that school of thought. If I quit acting today, Soham [her child], on growing up, will feel guilty that his mother gave up her passion and dreams for him. I don't want him to be burdened with guilt."

Deepika Singh is certainly setting the right examples to her fans! Here's wishing a very happy birthday to the actress.
