Shrenu Parikh aka Genda Agarwal from &TV's Ghar Ek Mandir-Kripa Agrasen Maharaja Ki tells mid-day.com all about her Diwali plans.
What are your Diwali plans this year?
I will be celebrating Diwali with my family this year. We plan to go out for lunch together, but the evening will be spent at home doing Laxmi Pooja and eating my favourite food items. I love making rangoli, and this year, I have downloaded a few beautiful designs on my phone already from the internet, which I will be making, so I am quite excited about that. I love the festival's vibe, especially because of the lighting we get to see all around.
What have you shopped for?
I have shopped handmade diyas as I support the local shops. Nothing can make your decor look more beautiful than mitti ke diye on Diwali. So that is one item of decoration I buy every year.
Your favourite childhood memories of Diwali...
For me, childhood memories of Diwali would be the school vacation then. Besides that, celebrating the festival, bursting crackers and eating good food are my most special memories of Diwali during childhood. Spending time with cousins and visiting relatives' places is best remembered to me.

What are the Diwali traditions at your home?
It has been a tradition at my home that rangoli will be made exclusively by me (giggles). And of course, we organise Laxmi Poojan with my entire family and seek the blessings of Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha for protection, abundance and prosperity.
What are the sweets you love gorging on during Diwali?
Being a Gujarati, I have a special place in my heart for sweets. But being in a profession where you have to take care of many things, I prefer eating any confection that is low in sugar or made sugar-free.
Any favourite Diwali song or scene from a movie?
Diwali song 'Aayi hai Diwali, Sunno Ji Ghar Wali' starring Govinda, Juhi Chawla and others from Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya. It has a very groovy beat which takes you instantly into Diwali mood.
What's your favourite part of the festival?
Meeting your family and spending time with them over delicious food is the best part of Diwali that makes me wait for it every year.
