On Father's Day, let's pay an ode to some of the most amazing fathers created for television!

Telly fathers

Happy Father's Day to our dads and also to all the fictional ones we have grown to love. Today, observed as Father's Day worldwide is a day to celebrate fathers and father figures in our lives. The small screen has given us plenty of fathers, from the notorious and terrible ones, (Homer Simpson, anyone?), to the most caring, funny, and supportive dads. Just in time for the holiday, here's the pack of TV dads who inspire us to be good people.

On Father's Day, let's pay an ode to some of the most amazing fathers created for television!

Michael Bluth

Michael Bluth, played by Jason Bateman, is always trying to do what he can to keep the family together. You see him guide his son, his brothers, his father, who keeps vanishing and yet, does it all with a calm that is surprising to most. One of the most functional members in this dysfunctional sitcom, Michael is a source of stability and while he wouldn't always listen to his adolescent kid's feelings, he is always there for him, just like any other dad.

Homer Simpson

If this were a list of the craziest TV dads in the history of TV, Homer Simpson, hands down, would top the list. The funniest, most careless TV dad of all time, the now-legendary Homer Simpson, for over 30 years, has led the show with his love of beer and donuts, his constant 'D'ohs!', and his ridiculous dimwitted behaviour. Homer isn't really going to win any Father of the Year award if you look at the number of times he has strangled his supremely notorious son Bart, and the way he screams at Marge and Lisa. But beneath all this rage, silly, stupid and violent behaviour, there's the sweetest heart too. If your dad is a sucker for absurd, satirical comedy, watch The Simpsons on Star World this Father's Day.

Jack Pearson

Probably the dream dad of TV, Jack Pearson, played by Milo Ventimiglia, is a father willing to bend over backwards to make sure his three kids get the best life. Considered as the greatest character in television history, Jack Pearson is a selfless provider who loves his family without condition. He is full of witty one-liners, compassion, and deep and honest love. This Is Us teaches you about love, family, parenthood, and relationships, and gives you hope and optimism. It is a show that is so gut-wrenchingly emotional and honest that although it makes you cry, it also makes you feel good.

Phil Dunphy

The self-proclaimed cool dad, Phil Dunphy is one of the funniest characters on Modern Family. The father of three children is as optimistic as a kid himself and loves adventure. Believer of 'Peer-renting', he's a devoted father putting in efforts to make better bonds with the kids by his fun tricks and talks. Always ready to go miles for his friends and family, happy-go-lucky and an avid follower of sci-fi and fantasy, Phil Dunphy is clearly one of the most loving dads on television. Catch Modern Family on Star World!

Jack Geller

From praising his kids for their achievements to being upright with his comments, he tries his best to be a good dad and does a brilliant job indeed. Talking to them after their break-ups and failures, consoling them, preserving their childhood memories to giving them a Porsche - Jack comes with a lot of surprises. A progressive and open-minded father who lets his children fight their own battles while constantly being a strong pillar of support, Jack is an adoring father. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is available for streaming on Netflix.

Howard Wolowitz

Who would have thought a wannabe ladies' man and a geeky engineer from MIT would turn out to be a dedicated family man? Wolowitz loves his kids more than anything in this world, more than he likes bragging about being an astronaut! Doesn't look like a strong man but bet you, touch his kids and he'll make a robot punch you right in the face. Imagine having a dad like Howard and never having to worry about Math problems or science projects. The Big Bang Theory is currently available for streaming on Hotstar.

Louis Huang

Louis is a generous, kind and very ambitious man. An optimistic father, who loves his children beyond anything in this world. However, his life is not limited to his family. He's a dedicated and determined man who has a dream of successfully establishing Cattleman's Ranch, his own restaurant. Keeping a perfect balance between family and work, neither does he lose his ambition for work nor forgets to pamper his family. His endless will to work hard and harder, teaches his kids to dream and achieve anything and everything in the world. In all, he's a totally kickass dad that his all three sons look up to and we as an audience love to watch on-screen. Catch Fresh off the Boat in India on Star World.

George Cooper Sr

Sheldon's dad is a football coach at Medford High School. He's an average middle-class man who lives and earns for his family. Even though his intellect doesn't match with that of Sheldon's, he seems to have accepted the fact really well. He is a supporting father, who is always there to defend his children under all circumstances. It's because of what he does for his family that he's earned Sheldon's love and respect, which as we know, is very rare. Catch Young Sheldon on Comedy Central in India.

Frank Costanza

One of the most eccentric dads on TV is none other than Frank Costanza from Seinfeld. George's father wore his emotions on his sleeve and used shouting as his preferred method of communication. This former army cook was fluent in Korean and was vocal about removing his shoes in other people's homes. Now you know how George Costanza became the lying neurotic that he is. All that said, Frank Costanza, played beautifully by Jerry Stiller, although annoying, was one of the most amusing characters on the show. The show can be watched on Prime Video.

Red Forman

Most dads have to put on their 'tough guy' act but definitely not Mr Red Forman. Sure he loved his wife Kitty and treated his daughter like a princess, but Eric never got any affection. Instead, he got the constant threat of 'foot up his dumb ass'. Red had a short fuse, was insensitive, strict, and hated pretty much everyone (especially, his hippie neighbours). Nevertheless, he always wished well for Eric and there are a few heartwarming moments throughout the series where the son and father can be seen having a fun time! This show is streaming on Netflix.
