Tamil actress Sindhu, best known for her role in Vaantha Balan's 2010 film Angadi Theru, has passed away aged 42 after a long battle with breast cancer. She breathed her last in her sleep in the wee hours of Monday. Sindhu was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 and fought a long battle with the disease, undergoing several treatments.

The news of her death was shared by actor Kottachi on social media. He shared a photo of the actress and wrote, "Today at 2.15 in the morning, film actress Angadi Teru Sindhu died naturally. I pray to God for the peace of her soul." Several fans and admirers offered their condolences.

Sindhu was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 and underwent several treatments thereafter. She was being treated at a private hospital in Kilpauk for the past few years. During her diagnosis, she took to social media to request financial help for her treatment. Several south actors, like Karthi, Isari, Satish Kumar, and others, came forward to help her with the expenses.

Earlier, in a video published on a Tamil YouTube channel, the actor pleaded for mercy killing as she was not able to bear the pain.

Sindhu reportedly started her journey as a child artist and had a tough life in showbiz. Poverty prevailed at home. Sindhu was married at the age of 14 and became a mother to a child and had a very troublesome married life, according to reports. She has stated in many interviews regarding her struggles to bring up her daughter as a single mother and being cheated by her family and friends of her earnings.

Sindhu was known for her social service during natural calamities such as the Chennai floods in 2015 and the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the 2010 film, Angadi Theru, directed by Vasantha Balan, Mahesh, and Anjali played the main characters, while Sindhu played a supporting role. She won applause for her performance and became a household name. Besides Angadi Theru, she was seen in films like Nadodigal, Naan Mahaan Ala, Thenavattu and Karuppusamy Kuthagaitharar.

The actor's last rites are expected to be performed in Virugambakkam crematorium in Chennai on August 7.
