Well known Tamil actor Junior Balaiah passed away at his residence in Chennai at the age of 70. He died on Thursday morning due to asphyxiation. As prer reports, the last rites of the veteran actor will take place on Thursday evening in Chennai.

Junor Balaiah born as Raghu Balaiah and is the son of leading Tamil actor TS Balaiah. Born in 1953, Balaiah acted in some plays before he got into the movies. He is most known for films like 'Karakatakkaran', 'Gopura Vasalile' and 'Sundarakandam'.

It was in the year 1975 that he made his debut with the Tamil film 'Melnaattu Marumagal'. He featured in several films in his career over forty years with him largely portraying supporting characters. He acted opposite Sivajiganesan in Tyagam and as one of Kamal Haasan's friends in Havbe Mayam.

In the 2010s, Balaiah made rare appearances in films and won acclaim for his portrayal of a headmaster in Saattai (2012). He appeared in four films in 2015 including 'Thani Oruvan' and 'Puli'. In 2014, Balaiah revealed his intentions of becoming a film producer to launch his son's acting career.

Apart from cinema, Junior Balaiah has also acted in serials including 'Chithi', 'Vazhkai' and 'Chinna Papa Periya Papa'.

Junior Balaiah played an important role in Ajith's 'Nerkonda Parvai' and the last film he acted in was in 2021's 'Yennanga Sir Unga Sattam'.
