Patna radio station gives in to producer's demand

When producer-director Nitin Chandra filed a petition with the Information & Broadcasting Ministry requesting it to intervene and ask a private radio channel in Patna to play Bhojpuri and Maithili songs on their channel, hitlist (issue dated March 13, 2014) had carried a report on the same.

Now it has emerged that the channel has given in to Chandra's demand and has now started playing Bhojpuri songs. "I had filed an online petition and even went to Delhi to meet the authorities. But no action was taken against the channel. Finally, I filed a complaint and started talking about it on social networking sites. Many people supported me and finally, the I&B Ministry sent a show cause notice to the channel," Chandra says.

Interestingly, the producer had even threatened to go on a hunger strike. "I am glad that mid-day decided to report this matter. It helped me fight against these channels. Initially, they were rude towards me. But after their prejudice was laid bare, they realised the futility of it all. The channel has now allotted a particular time slot on Sunday for Bhojpuri songs. I am getting positive feedback from Patna for this programme and I hope political parties take up similar problems here in Maharashtra," he says.
