Last year's multi-million dollar Mira Road call centre racket being busted seems to have captured Mohan Babu's imagination. On Monday, the South superstar's team met senior officials of Thane police to discuss a film revolving around the scam.
Thane police commissioner Parambir Singh says, "Few members [of Babu's team] visited our office, but our officers were busy with investigation and couldn't give them time."
The team met Parag Manare, deputy commissioner of police-Thane crime branch, who said, "We met a woman claiming to be part of Mohan Babu's team. They are making a movie on (the) call centre (scam), but we couldn't learn of exact facts [of the project] since we were busy. So, we were unable to get back to them [with an appropriate response]. They will be visiting again today and if they need anything, we will help them accordingly."
The scam was busted in October last year. Raids were conducted at various bogus call centres in Mira Road, Bhayander and other areas. The employees claiming to be IRS officers used to threaten and dupe US citizens. The investigation also revealed that the kingpin Sagar Thakkar, who is still absconding, gifted a luxury car to his girlfriend to impress her. The hot wheels were seized by cops.
