RM was the first member to join BTS and the most fluent in English. He was chosen as leader since he could communicate with the global audience. From speaking at the United Nations to the White House and acting as a translator for members, he has pulled off his role perfectly.

RM keeps the younger members in check. Be it the time Taehyung aka V insisted on drinking water before a shoot despite RM's disapproval or the time the younger members were laughing when J-Hope was giving a speech, one glare is enough to pass the message across!

During one of their early performances, Jin and Taehyung got into a tiff about the choreography. RM firmly explained to them that they are professionals and fans had been lining up to watch them for days. He also went on to console a teary eyed Taehyung with a warm hug.

When the group was struggling, RM was given a choice, he could continue as a soloist and disband with BTS. Though it was always RM’s dream to be a soloist he declined the offer and said he wanted the members to have a chance at success.

An interviewer once asked J-Hope, "Which K-Pop band do you think will break next in the US?" An alert RM whispered to him in Korean saying, "Be careful." He often alerts the boys when it comes to questions that could blow up into a controversy.

During another interview, RM was asked about whether he dreamed of collaborating with Justin Bieber. RM answered, “It’s not a dream. We’re in the same company, we’re company friends. It’s not a dream, it hasn’t happened yet. So, if you see this video friend, call us. Or come to Korea.”

More recently, James Corden had made a controversial comment about BTS Army. During the group's latest appearance on his show RM said “James, we’re glad to be back but how about you? You’ve been in some hot water with Army.” An embarassed James explained his side of the story and said it was just a joke. RM quickly took the opportunity and said, “James it’s alright, we appreciate your apology." Fans couldn't stop cheering for RM's witty response.
