Jin was spotted by a casting director of Big Hit Entertainment while traveling on a bus. He had also caught the eye of an employee of SM entertainment while walking on the street but rejected the offer. Jin wanted to be an actor and had auditioned for the same at Big Hit Entertainment. Later he debuted as the visual and vocalist of BTS, though he hadn't trained in singing.
Suga, was already known on the hip-hop scene as a producer and rapper, who went by the name Gloss. Suga auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment's rap competition 'Hit It' where he won 2nd place, and joined the company as a producer before becoming part of BTS.
RM started off as an underground rapper who went by the name Runch Randa when he was in middle school. He went on to join a rap crew called Daenamhyup. Later he auditioned for a competition where Untouchable‘s Sleepy was a judge. Sleepy was impressed with RM’s rapping skills and passed his number to producer Bang Si Hyuk after which RM became the first member and leader of BTS.
J-Hope started off as a dancer with a group called Neuron. He auditioned for JYP Entertainment but did not make it to the final list, however he got selected as a dancer and rapper for Big Hit Entertainment's BTS.
Jimin, a top student at the Busan High School of Arts's- department of dance, was the final member to join BTS. After being encouraged by his teacher, he auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment. Jimin had the shortest training period among all members.
V came from a family of farmers and his dream was to pursue music and become a saxophonist. He accompnaied a friend to a Big Hit Entertainment's audition just to support him but someone from the rookie development team saw V and encouraged him to audition. He ended up getting selected and that's how he became a vocalist with BTS.
The youngest member of the group Jungkook had auditioned for the 3rd season of Superstar K in his hometown Busan. Although he was eliminated from the auditions, various agency recruiters noticed him. Jungkook was scouted by 7 different entertainment agencies including JYP Entertainment and Starship Entertainment. However, Jungkook chose Big Hit Entertainment where he joined as a vocalist because he was impressed with RM's rapping skills and wanted to train with him.
