SHINee is one of the most popular K-pop bands in South Korea, with a fandom spread across the world. Recently, some members of the band came under fire for certain comments about their bandmate Minho, which did not go down well with fans. In a now-deleted clip posted on SHINee's YouTube channel, band members Key and Taemin were seen having a chat in bed, when the three had a conversation about Minho's skin tone, which many have found problematic.

Key, Taemin and the content production team, PRISM Production Center, have since issued apologies for the allegedly problematic remarks.

On Tuesday, September 26, Key, Taemin, and Choi Minho came together to release the third part of SHINee-ing's first episode, where the members comfortably laid down on a bed and talked about recent events, recalling past memories, etc. While fans were excited to see fresh content from the four-piece K-pop boy group, they were put off when Taemin and Key allegedly made colourist remarks.

Taemin said, "When I see you after you play golf, all I can see are the whites of your eyes and teeth. Seriously." Key said, "Why did you get so tanned?" Minho replied, "I apply so much sunscreen." Key added, "If Minho closes his eyes and mouth at night, you'll end up looking for him."

After fans and netizens criticised Taemin and Key's comments about Minho's skin tone, the band members and SHINee's content production team released official apologies. They cited the comments as "insensitive" and "inappropriate" in their statements, and they further apologized to fans via social media.

The band was formed by SM Entertainment in 2008. The group's musical impact in their native country has earned them numerous accolades and the title 'Princes of K-pop'. The group currently is composed of four members: Onew, Key, Minho, and Taemin. Originally a five-piece group, vocalist Jonghyun died in December 2017. SHINee is considered to be one of the best live vocal groups in K-pop and is known for their highly synchronized and complex dance routines.
