The evening of 26/11 was graced by the real-life hero, Chef Hemant Oberoi who was felicitated for his incredible heroic act and being amongst the key reasons who saved the lives of many in 2008 terror attack. Kim Sharma, Raveena Tandon, Nupur Sanon, Mustafa, Kabir Bedi, Aditya Seal, Geeta Basra, Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta, Jimmy Shergill, Kirti Kulhari, Rahul Bhat, Rithvik Dhanjani, Sahher Bambba, Saundarya Sharma, Vatsal Seth, Vivek Oberoi were some of the few who attended the special screening of Hotel Mumbai, hosted in the city.

The producers of Hotel Mumbai hosted a special screening of the film on the event of the 11th anniversary of the ghastly attacks. From Chef Hemant Oberoi, the real-life hero and then head chef in 2008 of the Taj was present at the screening. All pictures/Yogen Shah

The event of 26/11 is made up of stories of incredible courage. At the event, Chef Oberoi was even felicitated with an emotional standing ovation by the crowd for his real-life act of courage and incredible bravery.

Anthony Maras' debut film Hotel Mumbai, which stars Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Anupam Kher amongst others, presents a fresh perspective putting the spotlight on the heroes who laid their lives saving others and helped rescue others when the gunmen attacked Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai.

The attacks that killed 166 people and injuring over 300, the city's Bravehearts have found a befitting tribute in the film that celebrates their spirit.

An emotional, Hemant Oberoi expressed, "I am really honoured and honestly very emotional tonight. The movie is brilliant and I am thankful to everyone who's been a part of it."

Hemant Oberoi also added, "I am most grateful to those who helped save the lives of others and those who laid their lives in an attempt to save the lives of others."

"As the movie says and we believe too, that guest is god, that is something I truly believe in. I feel as humans we are selfish but an act of kindness really goes a long way in saving humanity," concluded the chef Hemant Oberoi.

Anupam Kher and Dev Patel are part of the film, in which Kher plays Hemant Oberoi, who worked as a chef at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai at that time.

Anupam Kher shared in a media interaction, "I'm the only person who is playing a real character Hemant Oberoi who was part of the tragedy. He was the chef at that time."

"Dev embodies the spirit of many from the night who put their own lives on the line to ensure the safety of their guests," said director Anthony Maras in an interview with mid-day.

The director further added, "As shown in the film, the waiter had the presence of mind to switch off the lights when the terrorists came in and hid people under the tables."

"The waiter was in touch with Chef Oberoi, throughout the rescue operations. This man safely snuck out a lot of people from the hotel," also added the director.

Anthony Maras also mentioned, "The staffer who takes the police to the CCTV room is a separate character. He helped the cops nab the terrorists. Their inputs were critical in helping the cops get people out of the hotel."

Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios and said, "We wanted to share the film with the people whose stories it is based on. Their validation matters the most to us.

"Often, we forget to celebrate the real heroes in this country. To honour chef Hemant Oberoi, who is one of the heroes of that night, is a privilege," added Shariq Patel.
