Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie and Great Gerwig on the sets of Barbie
The race to the 96th annual Academy Awards has picked up the momentum. On Tuesday, the nominations for the upcoming edition of the Oscars 2024 were announced. The biggest disappointment came in the form of the Greta Gerwig directorial âBarbie' as it failed to get nominated in the Best Director and Actress in a Leading Role category. Social media users were furious that the female force behind the biggest box office film in the USA last year was snubbed by the Oscars. However, Ryan Gosling who played Ken was nominated under the Best Supporting Actor category.
Like many netizens, Ryan Gosling also expressed his dismay at the Oscars 2024 snub of his 'Barbie' co-star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig. Apart from Ryan, actress America Ferrera also earned a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category. However, 'Barbie' missing from several important categories left netizens in shock and disappointed.
Actor Ryan Gosling released a statement after his co-star and director were not acknowledged by The Academy Awards.
"I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films," the Notebook actor penned a long note.

He added, "And I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm also incredibly honored and proud that it's for portraying a plastic doll named Ken." Citing that there is no existence of Ken without Barbie he said, "But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I'm disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement."
He added, "Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognised along with the other very deserving nominees".
Concluding the note, Ryan wrote, "Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film".
