It's a proud day for India! Musician Shankar Mahadevan and Ustad Zakir Hussain's fusion band Shakti clinched the award for Best Global Music Album for their latest release 'This Moment'. They were nominated in the race to the Grammys alongside artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy and Davido. The 66th Annual Grammy Awards 2024 were held in Los Angeles.
Taking to X, Grammys shared the post and wrote, "Congrats Best Global Music Album winner - 'This Moment' Shakti. #GRAMMYs."

In his acceptance speech, Mahadevan said, "Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you… Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to." The musician's speech evoked a loud cheer from the crowd.
'This Moment' features 8 songs created by John McLaughlin (guitar, guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).
That was not all. Table maestro Zakir Hussain secured the Best Global Music Performance Grammy for his contribution to "Pashto" alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia.
In a post on X, Indian music composer Ricky Kej hailed the Indian artists' win and said that this is a great year for India at the Grammys. "Ustad Zakhir Hussain (sic), the living legend creates history by winning 3 Grammys in one night!!! Rakesh Chaurasia wins 2!! .. and I am blessed to witness it," he wrote.
Kej wrote in a post, "SHAKTI wins a GRAMMY! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Brilliant!"
