The 74th annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Kenan Thompson at the Microsoft Theater, saw several repeat winners, along with quite a few surprising upsets. Ted Lasso won Best Comedy Series for the second year in a row, The White Lotus took Top Limited Series, and Succession grabbed the highest honour of the night with Outstanding Drama Series.

Earning appreciation for his stint, Thompson took jibes at several celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, when referring to one of the night's top winners, stating, "Zendaya just turned 26 last week. 26 is a weird age in Hollywood. I mean, you're young enough to play a high school student, but you're too old to date Leonardo DiCaprio." Political issues were not off-limits, with pot-shots being taken at former US President Donald Trump and the succession of the British crown.
