The Sheffield-based rock band won the Mastercard British Album of the Year for their fifth studio effort 'AM', which was released last year. "That rock and roll, it seems like it's fading away sometimes. But it will never die, and there's nothing you can do about it," frontman Alex Turner told the audience when accepting the Album of the Year trophy.

One Direction won two awards including the British Video award for their record-breaking 'Best Song Ever' clip. The bandmember Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson also bagged the Global Success award.

American musician Bruno Mars won the International Male Solo Artist title, while the International Female Solo Artist award went to New Zealand singer/songwriter Lorde. Other winners included Daft Punk (International Group), Ellie Goulding (British Female Solo Artist), Bowie (British Male Solo Artist), Bastille (British Breakthrough Act) and Sam Smith (Critics' Choice) among others.
