'Daddy's Home 2' may not be as badass as 'A Bad Mom's Christmas 2' but it comes real close. This sequel to 'Daddy's Home' is half a notch better than the original but that's not saying much. The comedy and wit are missing largely, while it's the stalwarts(John Lithgow, Mel Gibson) in the fray who actually go all out to eke some gratification out of the whole sorry mess.
Needless to say, writers Sean Anders and John Morris fail to come up with something interesting - instead they play up the dysfunctional families angle to the hilt and make bawdy, distasteful comedy from unmentionables coming out of little babe's mouths.
Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) are now at peace, sharing custody of the two children Dusty sired with his ex-, and Brad's current, wife Sara (Linda Cardellini) but that routine gets threatened when Brad's papa Don (John Lithgow), and Dusty's bad-boy Dad Kurt (Gibson) come visiting.
Though the edgy, in-bad-taste jokes are a trifle toned down, the flavour of the enterprise is much the same - Lampooning sensitivity while making 'Macho' seem like a pastry worth digging into. And there's plenty of testosterone here, in the form of Mark Wahlberg, Mel Gibson and John Cena who do their best to mark-up the Duh-aggro quotient. Like in 'A Bad Mom's Christmas 2' the strategy here also seems to be to load the film with some A list names to draw in the extra Fan-crowd. Not that this strategy will prove beneficial in countries like India where the bad family stratagem appears a little too alien a concept to be comical. This is too much of a nightmare to be a kid-friendly Christmas offering!
