"I missed my wife, my bulldog and ghar ka khana in that order," says an exhausted Vir Das, who recently returned to the country from New York where he was shooting for the second instalment of his upcoming Netflix series, scheduled to go online in February. He will be the first Indian to bag his own show, joining the likes of Russel Peter and Jon Stewart.

"It was an astounding experience," says the 37-year-old, as he recounts his performance before the live audience overseas. Das shot for the first part of the series in Delhi earlier this year. Though he refuses to confess about the developments yet, the excitement in his voice can hardly be contained.

"I have always felt that there is a genuine vacancy of an Indian voice in the comedy space globally. I'm not referring to a Canadian-Indian or an American Indian. I'm talking about a desi comic." But is the international audience receptive to Indian comedy?

"The Americans are warmer to humour," he says. "They have more experience in handling jokes and their sensibilities are evolved, but Indians clearly laugh louder," he chuckles.

After having ventured into films from theatre, Das, who will direct and write his show, is looking forward to tapping into the digital space. "There is no censorship, the appreciation is massive and it involves lesser risk than movies do," he says matter-of-factly.
