The Ben Affleck starrer, an adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel of the same name, was a success at the box office thanks to its female audience, reported Ace Showbiz.
The 60 per cent of 'Gone Girl' audience was female, and 75 per cent over the age of 25. Internationally, the film earned USD 24.6 million, bringing its worldwide collection to USD 62.6 million.
Coming in second place was 'The Conjuring' spin-off 'Annabelle' that almost beat the champion in the race with an estimated USD 37.2 million.
With a budget at just USD6.5 million, the horror flick was a great success for Warner Bros. Last week's winner 'The Equalizer' continued its run at the third place this week with a collection of USD 19 million.
Animated movie 'The Boxtrolls' took the fourth spot after collecting an estimated USD 12.4 million, followed by 'The Maze Runner' with approximately USD 12 million.
