Pyaasa: Waheeda Rehman essayed the role of prostitute named Gulabo who is sympathetic towards Vijay (essayed by Guru Dutt) as he pours his heart out after failing at publishing his book. Gulabo approaches some of her affluent clientele to assist Vijay and try and get his work published, without revealing that they are written by an alcoholic, dishevelled, homeless man.

Guide: Waheeda Rehman won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role of Rosie Marco/Miss Nalini in this film. Rosie's background of being a prostitute's daughter causes marital distress and leads her to attempt suicide as her husband disapproves of her dancing career. She then comes across a Guide, Raju (played by Dev Anand) and the two enter into a forbidden relationship

Kaagaz Ke Phool: Another film opposite Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman recreated the magic on screen with her role of Shanti. Sinha (Guru Dutt) recognises her potential as a star in the making and casts her as Paro in Devdas after which Shanti goes on to become an acclaimed star. Shanti and Suresh come together and their liaison becomes hot debated topic in gossip columns

Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam: Based on a Bengali novel, the movie is a look into the tragic fall of the haveli-dom and feudalism in Bengal during the British regime. Jaba (Waheeda Rehman) looks after Bhoothnath (Guru Dutt) when he is injured in a crossfire with British. In the end, after the death of his wife and Jaba's husband, a nostalgic Bhoothnath rides away on a carriage with Jaba, who is now his wife

Khamoshi: Waheeda Rehman played the unconventional nurse, Radha, in a psychiatry ward of a hospital who is heart-broken after a civilian patient, Dev Kumar (Dharmendra) leaves the hospital. Reason being she had been unable to keep her heart separate from her professional work and had fallen in love with her patient. Later, another patient Arun (Rajesh Khanna) gets cured by the love of Radha, who yet again falls hopelessly in love with her patient. Unable to face the truth, Radha herself goes insane and is admitted to the same clinic

Rang De Basanti: In this Bollywood blockbuster, Waheeda Rehman played the widowed mother of flight Lt. Ajay Rathod (R Madhavan). Following the death of her son in a jet crash due to the callous attitude of corrupt defence minister, the mother (Waheeda Rehman) joins the peaceful protest at India Gate where she gets severely hurt and slips into a coma.
