Vivek made his acting debut in 2002 with the Hindi film 'Company' directed by Ram Gopal Varma. Despite being a multi-starrer with actors like Mohanlal and Ajay Devgn in the film, he shone with his performance as Chandu in the film

Oberoi then starred in the action films 'Road' and 'Dum'. In the beginning of his career, he was thought to be the next BG superstar and some even looked at him as the next Shah Rukh Khan

In 2002, he starred in the romantic drama Saathiya. The film was a success at the box office and earned him a Filmfare nomination in the Best Actor category

In 2003, just a year post his debut he called a press conference alleging that Salman Khan threatened to kill him for his closeness to Aishwarya Rai. He revealed details of abusive calls from Salman Khan at midnight. This soured his relationship with Salman Khan further

In 2004 with the film 'Kyun! Ho Gaya Na...', Vivek further cemented his romantic charming hero image as he was paired opposite Aishwarya. At that time, there were rumours of him dating his co-star as well 

In 2004, Vivek bagged the Mani Ratnam film 'Yuva' which was also a multi-starrer. He was paired opposite Kareena Kapoor in the film that also starred Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Esha Deol, and Rani Mukerji

Vivek Oberoi stepped into the comedy scene with the 2004 film Masti. This was once again a multi-starrer as he shared screen with Riteish Deshmukh, Ajay Devgn and Aftab Shivdasani

In 2006, Oberoi appeared in Omkara, an adaptation of Shakespeare's play Othello, playing the character of Kesu, based on the character Michael Cassio in the original play. After seeing Oberoi's performance, Gulzar congratulated him

In 2007, Oberoi played the gangster Maya Dolas in Shootout at Lokhandwala, which helped shed his romantic hero image

In 2010, he appeared in Ram Gopal Varma's 'Rakht Charitra', playing the role of the Telugu politician Paritala Ravi. Oberoi's performance in the role of Paritala Ravi drew widespread praise

In 2013, he shone with his villain act in Hrithik Roshan-led superhero film Krrish

Vivek returned to comedy for the sequel of Masti- 'Grand Masti' in 2013 and 'Great Grand Masti' in 2016

In 2017, Oberoi looked southward and made his Tamil debut in a supporting role alongside Ajith Kumar in the action thriller film 'Vivegam'. Vivek played Aryan Singha in the film. His character, a close friend of the protagonist betrays him and switches sides. The film received mixed reviews from critics

The actor also appeared in Ram Charan-starrer Telugu film Vinaya Vidheya Rama (2019), marking his Telugu debut. It received negative reviews from critics and became a box-office bomb, which prompted Charan to issue an apology letter

After Tamil and Telugu, Vivek marked his Malayalam film debut with the 2019 film 'Lucifer'. He reunited with Mohanlal after his debut film Company. He played the antagonist Bobby and was praised for his performance and for standing out in a film that starred actors like Mohanlal, Manju Warrier and others. The film that marked the directorial debut of Prithviraj Sukumaran was the highest grossing film of the year

Right after the release of 'Lucifer', Vivek was seen in the biopic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Directed by Omung Kumar, the film tanked at the box office and received negative reviews from the critics and Oberoi was also criticised for his performance

In 2022, Oberoi returned to Malayalam cinema as an antagonist opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran in the film 'Kaduva'. Despite receiving mixed reviews, it was a commercial success

He then starred in MX Player series Dharavi Bank alongside Suniel Shetty. It received praise from critics and audience for the performances and occasional criticism for writing

On the personal front, in 2010, Vivek married Priyanka Alva, daughter of Karnataka minister Jeevan Alva. Their son Vivaan Veer Oberoi was born on 6 February 2013. Their daughter Ameyaa Nirvana Oberoi was born in 2015
