Ahead of Filmfare 2023, Salman Khan attended a press conference to launch the annual awards ceremony, The superstar will be hosting the ceremony this year. At the event, Salman was at his candid best as he responded to every question thrown at him in an honest manner.

At the press conference, Salman Khan was questioned about the underperformance of Hindi films at the box office. While reverting to the question, Salman said, "I have been hearing this for a very long time that our Hindi films are not working. Kharab picture banaoge toh kaise chalegi (If you make bad films, how will it work?)," he said.

Taking a dig at Bollywood directors and filmmakers, Salman said, "Everyone thinks that they are making 'Mughal-e-Azam', 'Sholay', 'Hum Aapke Hai Kaun', or 'Dilwale', but that doesn't happen." Further explaining why he feels Hindi films are not connecting with the audience today, Salman Khan said, "Today filmmakers have a different understanding of India. They feel the country begins and ends from Andheri to Colaba. The filmmakers that I have met and interacted, they are too cool. They make that kind of content. However, Hindustan is way different. It starts from the east of the railway stations."

Besides speaking about the directors and the content that they are generating, Salman also shed light on the need for censorship on OTT platforms. “I really think there should be censorship on the medium. All these.. vulgarity, nudity, gaali galauch (swearing) should stop." Salman also spoke about how vulgarity and foul language can spoil kids and youngsters, he said, "Ab 15-16 saal ka bacche dekh sakte hai. Aapko acha lagega apki choti se beti ye sab dekhe… padhne ke bahane (15-16-year-olds can now watch this content on their phone. Would you like it if your young daughter watches it giving an excuse she is using the device to study). I just think the content should be checked on OTT. Jitna clean hoga content, utna behtar hoga, viewership uski zyada hogi (the cleaner the content, it will be better and will also have a larger viewership).”

Salman Khan also took a sly dig at actors who do bold scenes on OTT platforms. While speaking about the fact that we live in India and how as an actor one shouldn't cross the 'boundary', Salman said, "Apne sab kuch kar lia… love making, kissing, expose kar lia aur aap apne building mein ghus rahe hai aur apka watchman aapka content dekh raha hai (You have done it all – love making, kissing and expose in scenes. And when you enter your buiding, your watchman is watching the same). So, I just don’t think that’s right for security reasons. Also, we don’t need to do that. Hindustan mein rehte hai, thoda boht theek hai lekin itna zyada beech mein ho gya tha. Ab jake thoda control mein aya hai (You don’t need to cross the boundary. We live in India. It was way too much before, finally, it has been curbed). Now, people have started working on a lot of good and decent content.”

At the event, the 'Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan' star was asked about his thoughts on new actors in the film industry. To this, the superstar gave a witty reply. Referring to Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, Salman said that all of them won't be giving it up to the new actors. He said, “All of them are hard-working. All (are) very focused. But the five of us are not going to give it up so easily.” He further explained, “Ab five mein kaun hai (who are these five people)? Shah Rukh, Aamir, me, Akki and Ajay. ” After taking a pause, Salman continued, “We will give them a run for their money. We will tire them out. Hum logo ke picturein chalti hai, hum price badha dete hai. Woh uske chakkar me, jab hume nahi milta, price badha dete hai. Kyu bhai (We increase our fees after the success of our films. Now to combat that, these people too increase their prices when we are not available for films. Why so).”
