Yash Chopra: The man who redefined romance

Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012): Yash Chopra returned to direction with this film that was a love triangle, with SRK playing an army officer.

Ishaqzaade (2012): A Romeo-Juliet tale with a rustic twist, the film set in a north Indian small town against a political backdrop wowed the audiences. The movie also had bold lovemaking scenes between the lead couple Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra.

Badmaash Company (2010): The crime-comedy showcases sizzling hot chemistry between Anushka Sharma and Shahid Kapoor.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008): A simple, ordinary-looking man (SRK) goes out of his way to prove his love to his wife (Anushka Sharma), and wins her over in the end.

Veer Zaara (2004): Yash Chopra's return to direction seven years after Dil Toh Pagal Hai the film portrays love without borders. Unconditional love is the underlying theme in the love story between an Indian man and a Pakistani woman.

Hum Tum (2004): The romantic comedy depicts how circumstances conspire to unite those destined to fall in love.

Saathiya (2002): Shaad Ali's remake of the Tamil film Alaipayuthe tackles post-marital problems faced by couples, and also depicts how love can be rediscovered post marriage.

Mohabbatein (2000): The Aditya Chopra-directed flick is about the battle of discipline versus romance, with a university run by an obdurate professor as the backdrop.

Dil To Pagal Hai (1997): The literal English translation of the title means the heart is crazy. The theme of the film basically is someone somewhere is made for you. It's all about recognising that someone.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995): Bollywood's most loved romantic film, DDLJ depicts the transformation of diverse sentiments from hatred to friendship and, eventually, love - in a manner that remains unmatched.

Darr (1993): Shifting focus from lovey-dovey romance, love is represented as a violent emotion here, with Shah Rukh Khan playing the dangerously obsessed lover.

Lamhe (1991): The message Yash Chopra wanted to give out through this film was that love can happen anytime, at any age. Though the audiences found the story of an older man falling for a girl much younger to him unacceptable at the time of release, the film has achieved cult status over the years.

Chandni (1989): Sridevi stole the show in this lovers separated and united tale. The music of the film added an enchanting romantic feel to the story.

Silsila (1981): Made at the height of the alleged Amitabh Bachchan-Rekha affair, Yash Chopra's realistic take on extra-martial affairs failed to strike a chord with the audiences.

Kabhi Kabhie (1976): A romantic saga woven around a poet, this movie is best remembered for its evergreen songs, be it the title song, Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon or Tere Chehre Se, each exhibiting different emotions of love.

Daag (1973): One of Rajesh Khanna's many super hits during his days of domination, the first film made under the Yash Raj banner has the superstar playing a married man, who is forced to change identity and tie the knot with another woman.
