Remember Tulip Joshi? Here's what the 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai' actress is up to

It's actress Tulip Joshi's birthday on September 11. She made a dream debut in YRF's 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai' but failed to make it big in Bollywood. Nevertheless, she is in a much happy space now! On her birthday, we take a look at her journey through some candid pictures with her husband.

Tulip Joshi, who turns 40 on September 11, 2020, was born and brought up in Mumbai. Her father is a Gujarati and her mother is from Armenia. A complete Mumbai girl, Tulip attended the Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and graduated with majors in food science and chemistry from Mumbai's Mithibai College. Tulip Joshi was 21 when she participated in Femina Miss India (2000). Though Tulip didn't make it to the final list, she managed to catch the attention of many ad agencies at the event.

Thereon, Tulip Joshi appeared in several commercials for big brands before stepping into Bollywood.

Tulip Joshi has also appeared in a video that was made to pay tribute to the famous Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Tulip Joshi, who was not fluent in Hindi, had to work on her diction before making her Bollywood debut.

Very few know that Tulip Joshi was noticed at the wedding reception of Aditya Chopra and Payal Khanna, post which she was asked to audition for a role in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.

In 2002, Tulip Joshi finally made her Bollywood debut in the Uday Chopra and Jimmy Sheirgill-starrer Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.

Tulip Joshi was launched as Sanjana in her debut film. Apparently, the actress was advised by filmmakers to change her name to something more Indian. She was reportedly told that audiences might have difficulty in accepting a heroine with such an unconventional name.

Sadly, despite being launched by one of the biggest banners in Bollywood, Tulip Joshi failed to make it big in showbiz. Her performance was panned by the critics in her debut itself.

In 2003, Tulip Joshi made her debut in Telugu films with Villain.

In 2004, Tulip Joshi was cast in Dil Maange More with Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia and Soha Ali Khan. The film tanked at the Box Office.

Tulip Joshi was seen in Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women (2005), which was hailed at Film Festivals and her performance too was praised by critics.

In 2007, Tulip Joshi played a suicide bomber in Dhokha, a film directed by Pooja Bhatt and which also starred Muzammil Ibrahim.

In the same year, Tulip Joshi made her Malayalam debut with Mission 90 Days, starring Mammooty.

In 2009, Tulip Joshi starred in the Punjabi film Jag Jeondeyan De Mele with Harbhajan Maan, thus making her Punjabi debut.

The very next year, in 2010, Tulip Joshi made her Kannada debut with Super, which was a hit.

Despite trying her luck various times in Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada films, Tulip Joshi's acting career never took flight.

Tulip Joshi is married to Captain Vinod Nair and is happily settled. Her husband served the Indian Army as a commissioned officer for 6 years in the 19th Battalion of the Punjab Regiment.

Tulip Joshi's husband Captain Vinod Nair was part of High-Risk Missions along the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir.

Well, if you remember, Captain Vinod Nair had also participated in 'Khatron Ke Khiladi' that was hosted by Akshay Kumar.

Although Tulip Joshi has practised Hinduism and Christianity she had later converted to Kimmaya, a religious order that was founded by her husband, Captain Vinod Nair.

Speaking about her fitness regime, Tulip Joshi had revealed once to mid-day, saying, 'I have been very disciplined regarding my workouts and have also been taking care of my diet. I prefer vegetarian food over non-veg.'

On International Yoga Day in 2017, Tulip Joshi turned yogini and launched a YouTube channel named 'Eternal Yogi'.

Tulip Joshi now runs a consulting company along with her husband Captain Vinod Nair. Apparently, it's a multi-crore company.

Tulip Joshi wants to contribute towards nation-building and had told mid-day in 2009, that she has her eyes set firmly on the highest seat in the country. 'I want to be the President of India. I want to change the country. It really needs someone like me,' said a young Tulip Joshi.

She then continued saying, 'I am too young right now. To be the President, you have to be at least 35 years of age. Till then, I will contribute in whatever way I can.'

'I will beautify the country, make better provisions for senior citizens and actively contribute in improving the nation. I will also give our armed forces better pay and advanced equipment,' Tulip Joshi, like a concerned citizen, added.

Does her concern for the armed forces mean Tulip the President would support a war against Pakistan? 'No, no. Not in any way. That decision I will leave for the Prime Minister to take. He must also be given some work,' she said with a cheeky smile.
