Mandira Bedi never compromises to her fitness regime. Be it a headstand or doing push-ups in a saree, the lady can do any given fitness challenge like a pro.
But then, haters are always gonna hate, right? When she took to Instagram to share her bikini-clad vacay picture from Greece, trollers body-shamed her left, right and centre. From calling her 'Wrestler aunty', to saying 'It doesn't suit your age', trollers attacked Bedi's picture with nastiest comments.
Mandira Bedi, however, didn't pay heed to trolls. She maintained her dignity and by not commenting only proved she was not bothered by such hatred.
Mandira Bedi rose to fame after playing the title role in Doordarshan's Shanti, which was the first daily soap on Indian television. She had stated in an earlier interview that she is often typecast as cops or criminals because she sports short hair.
Talking about her negative role in Saaho (her last release), featuring Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor, she said, 'I think people cannot imagine me in any other roles than that of a police officer or any negative character. I am stuck in stereotype courtesy my short hair.'
Mandira Bedi has also completed a Tamil film named Adangathey in which she is playing a police officer. So, doesn't she want to change her hairstyle for a variety of roles? 'No, never. I did not think about growing my hair for that. It is a stereotype that needs to go. Why can't a short-haired lady can play a lover, a mother or a wife? I am all of them.'
Citing an incident, Mandira Bedi said, 'During the look test of my last released film 'Vodka Diaries' in which I played a poet, a romantic role, I wore a sari and tried out beautiful long hair piece. But the director told me that they could not relate me to that long hair look. So they kept my look as it is.'
Having started her career on television with the show Shanti, Mandira has mainly played the role of a liberal, strong-headed and progressive woman in shows like Aurat, CID, 24 and MTV Troll Police. Mandira also became a popular cricket show presenter.

So I am not really seeing acting that way. I have also finished a film with Vivek Agnihotri, where I am playing a social worker. I am not allowed to talk much about the film, which is on Lal Bahadur Shastri.'
Mandira Bedi, who is extremely fitness conscious, said, 'I think when I was hosting shows, people forgot that I am an actress too. But here I am, shooting for my films these days.'
Mandira Bedi says getting trolled online feels like an assault and she has realised that Indian men are cowards. 'I had enough cases of men judging me for entering their territory but it was largely face to face, so I had a chance to give it back to them,' Mandira said.
Mandira Bedi says things have changed in the digital era. She said, 'Now things have changed because, with social media, anonymity comes to their rescue. But what I have experienced over these years is that Indian men are cowards. Usually, I don't pay attention to such comments because on one hand I have women who call me their inspiration and on the other hand, I have body-shaming comments by men.'

Mandira Bedi, whose last television outing was India's Deadliest Roads (2016), said, 'Even though I prefer to ignore it but at times, it is very disturbing to read such comments especially with the kind of language trolls use. It feels like an assault. The behaviour of these trolls is stemming from the poor upbringing where women are objectified and confined inside the four walls.'
Fit as a fiddle, Mandira Bedi said, 'Running has become a huge thing. People are taking to it more than ever. Even if I step out at 7 a.m. in my neighbourhood, there are around 20 or 25 runners, a mix of struggling and seasoned ones. The running culture has picked up over the last two years... For me, running is like meditation.'
However, running a marathon, Mandira Bedi says, is something 'you do for yourself'. 'There's a wonderful sense of achievement when you complete a run. These are goals and challenges you give yourself. And it's so good to see so many people who are motivated to do stuff like this now. It's great that fitness has become so much bigger in people's conscience now than before,' added the mother of a eight-year-old boy.
Mandira Bedi, who married producer Raj Kaushal in 1999, said the trigger for her journey towards fitness was an invitation to be a part of reality TV show Khatron Ke Khiladi. 'I wanted to be a strong contender, wanted to compete for it and I wanted to be good. That's when I got myself a personal trainer and started working out seriously. After that, I enjoyed it so much... Now I haven't trained with a trainer in many years. I am self-motivated now and I love exercising... Not just for what it does physically, but mentally and emotionally too,' she said.
Mandira Bedi also admitted that initially her draw was also to get slim and trim, but ultimately it became about not just looking good, but feeling good too. 'I am stronger and fitter than I ever was... I think this is the fittest and best version of me. I genuinely feel good.'
