"Every year, your birthday is the day I stop overthinking and blatantly insist and say we need pictures together. This year as you were getting ready for our picture together I decided to sneak a pic and Shani captured that moment. These are the moments I live for. Just us at home and being us. Even though we are most often in different cities shooting our films, when I come home I feel like time has stood still. And I’m still just a boy cherishing the time he gets when his father has a day off from work," he added

This is a screengrab of Mammootty from his first appearance on celluloid. Sharing the picture, he wrote, "This is a screen grab from my first ever appearance on celluloid. Colour corrected from black and white. This brings back such vivid memories from another time. I had the rare privilege to be in the same film as Sathyan master. In fact I remember touching his feet once when he was asleep, resting between shots"

Mammootty made his film debut in the year 1971 with the film 'Anubhavangal Paalichakal'

Mammootty's first leading role was in I. V. Sasi's unreleased film Devalokam (1979). Mammootty's breakthrough came in 1981 when he received the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor for his performance in Ahimsa. Major commercial successes during this time included the 1983 films Sandhyakku Virinja Poovu and Aa Raathri

In 1979, Mammootty married Sulfath Kuttyy. Their was an arranged marriage

Mammootty and his wife wlecomed their first child, a daughter named Surumi in 1982. Their son Dulquer Salmaan was born in 1983

Dulquer Salmaan is also an ardent fan of his father and it reflects in his posts for his father. Sharing the story behind the picture, Salmaan wrote, "As long as I can remember I’ve always been aware of your time. I’ve always measured it and made sure I get the most out of it. Most often I’ll call only when I feel it’s something important and worth your time. I never say Pa let’s take a photo or a selfie cause I’m aware that everywhere you go this is a constant request. It’s silly on my part but I’ve always been an over thinker. It’s the one thing Umma scolds me about always"

Mammootty never posts pictures with family on his Instagram feed but makes an exception when it comes to his granddaughter, Maryam

Dulquer Salmaan cannot escape questions about his superstar father everywhere he goes. From being known as Mammootty's son to carving an identity for himself, the actor has come a long way. "I tried to stay away as far as possible because I realised that anything that I do in movies will be compared to my dad and I would definitely ruin his reputation. He is not just an actor, it’s even the way he conducts himself and I didn’t want to be that kid who messes it up," DQ had said talking about his initial relucatance to become an actor

Recounting his father’s advice, Dulquer shared, “My father told me, ‘I can come and protect you from anything else but I cannot come and act for you. So when you are on the screen, you are going to get criticised, there will be brick and bats. They will try to bring you down more because you are my son and I don’t know how to protect you'

Dulquer, too, got married before entering the movies. He married Amal Sufiya and the two have a beautiful daughter
