Like mother, like daughter, they say. And Bollywood sure has set many such examples. On Lillette Dubey's birthday, here we take a look at some popular mother-daughter duos in the film industry.

Lillete Dubey and Ira Dubey: Lillete Dubey is an acclaimed theatre and Bollywood actress with films like Monsoon Wedding, Baghban and Kal Ho Naa Ho to her credit. She also starred in the British film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel featuring Maggie Smith, Judi Dench and Bill Nighy. Lillete married Ravi Dubey and has two daughters - Neha and Ira. While Ira has worked in films like Aisha and Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend, Neha is a psychotherapist in Mumbai.

Poonam Sinha and Sonakshi Sinha: Poonam Sinha, a former actress, married Shatrughan Sinha. While Poonam Sinha didn't taste much stardom as much as her husband Shatrughan, daughter Sonakshi's popularity is unmatchable to both. "My mum is my biggest critic and I take her opinion very seriously because I know that is one person, who is saying it only for my good and nobody else," said Sonakshi.

Neena Gupta and Masaba Gupta: In terms of talent, Neena Gupta knows no bounds and made her mark with her role in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983), and won the 1994 National Film Award for best supporting actress for her performance in Woh Chokri. And so is her daughter Masaba Gupta, who is a celebrated fashion designer. Neena was in a relationship with former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards in the 1980s. Breaking the stereotype, Neena raised their daughter Masaba Gupta out of wedlock. 

Sunita Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor: Sunita Kapoor was a well-established model before marrying actor Anil Kapoor. Her daughters - Sonam Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor - both took inspiration from their mum's fashion choices. Sonam, talking about her mother, wrote on social media once, "You've guided me with love and patience all through life. Your passion, intelligence, and creativity is simply inspiring and I'm lucky to call myself your daughter! Whoever I am today is because of you and I thank you for that!"

Aparna Sen and Konkona Sen Sharma: Acclaimed director Aparna Sen is the winner of several National Film Awards. Before donning the hat of a director, she was a renowned Bengali actress and had worked with legends like Satyajit Ray. Sen has been married three times. She was first married to Sanjay Sen. She later married journalist, Mukul Sharma, with whom she has two daughters from the marriage - Kamalini and Konkona. Sen is presently married to Kalyan Ray, an author and professor of English. Like mother, daughter Konkona too is a critically acclaimed actress. Aparna directed Konkona in several collaborations including Mr And Mrs Iyer, 15 Park Avenue.

Amrita Singh and Sara Ali Khan: Amrita Singh, who started her film career in Bollywood with Sunny Deol-starrer Betaab, married Saif Ali Khan in 1991 and the couple got divorced in 2004. Their children - daughter Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan are popular in their own way! While Sara forayed into acting, Ibrahim gets papped constantly and has a fan following on social media. Sara Ali Khan shares her mother Amrita's striking features. In fact, her upbeat attitude is often said to have come to her from her mom!

Soni Razdan, Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt: Alia Bhatt's mother Soni Razdan got married to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in 1986. British-born Soni Razdan starred in critically-acclaimed films like Mandi, Saaransh, Sadak and Monsoon Wedding. She recently starred in Raazi, playing Alia Bhatt's on-screen mother. While Alia is a Bollywood celebrity, her elder sister Shaheen isn't a part of the Hindi film industry. Shaheen has a keen interest in production and released her debut book I've Never Been (un) Happier.

Tanuja, Kajol and Tanishaa Mukerji: Daughter of actress Shobhna Samarth and producer Kumarsen Samarth, Tanuja started off as a child artist. She starred with her elder sister actress Nutan in the 1950 film Hamari Beti. She is best remembered for her roles in Mere Jeevan Saathi, Jewel Thief and Haathi Mere Saathi. Tanuja married film producer, director and writer Shomu Mukherjee and has two daughters Kajol and Tanishaa. While Kajol continues to rule in Bollywood, her younger daughter Tanishaa couldn't make a mark in the industry. Tanuja was seen in Kajol's debut film Bekhudi and they appeared together in Toonpur Ka Superhero too. Tanishaa has films like Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao and Neal N Nikki to her credit. Tanishaa has also launched her production house T Mukerji Media and was a runner-up in a season of Bigg Boss.

Kajol and Nysa Devgan: This mother-daughter is popular too! Time and again Kajol has proven that she is a doting mother and protective about her daughter Nysa. When Nysa turned 16 this year, the actress had a special wish to share for her "heartbeat". "Happy 16th birthday to my sweet sweet baby. I still feel the weight of you in my arms and I don't think that will ever change. However old you grow, know that you will always be my heartbeat. Always," Kajol posted on Instagram along with a selfie with the birthday girl.

Gauri Khan and Suhana Khan: Gauri Khan, who married Shah Rukh Khan in 1991, is a designer by profession who has worked on spaces for high-profile celebrities such as Mukesh Ambani, Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, among others. She has three children - Aryan, Suhana and AbRam. Gauri is very close to her daughter Suhana, who too is now a popular starkid. The proud mother often keeps sharing pictures of her daughter on social media!

Jaya Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan Nanda: Jaya Bhaduri, who started her film career at age 15 by starring in Satyajit Ray's Mahanagar, achieved critical success for many of her films. She married Amitabh Bachchan in 1973 and the couple has two children - Shweta and Abhishek. Though Abhishek followed in his parents' footsteps and forayed into acting, Shweta is an entrepreneur, she has her clothing line and is also a novelist.

Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Navya Naveli Nanda: Shweta Bachchan Nanda got married to businessman Nikhil Nanda in 1997. Nikhil is the son of Ritu Nanda, the daughter of the legendary actor Raj Kapoor. They have a daughter Navya Naveli Nanda and son Agastya. Navya is as popular as her mother. The entire Bachchan clan dotes on Navya, who is often spotted hanging out with grandpa and megastar Abhishek Bachchan and also frequently appears on his social media handles.

Madhu Chopra and Priyanka Chopra Jonas: It won't be wrong to say that Madhu Chopra is her daughter Priyanka Chopra's best friend. Recently, Madhu Chopra started her new venture Studio Aesthetique, an enhancement clinic. A proud daughter, PC took to social media to write about her mommy dearest, "One of the greatest individual challenges we face in our lives is the ability to constantly evolve as people and professionals. Ujjala Padukone and Deepika Padukone: Deepika, who is now married to actor Ranveer Singh, is very close to her family - mum Ujjala, dad Prakash Padukone and sister Anisha. She tries to spend as much time with them as possible, sometimes in Mumbai and other times in Bangalore where the family resides.

Babita, Karisma and Kareena Kapoor: Babita, who married Randhir Kapoor in 1971, is best known for films like Farz and Kismet in her short career that included 19 movies. She has two daughters - Karisma and Kareena. While Karisma was one of the most sought-after actresses in the 90s and early 2000s, her sister Kareena is ruling Bollywood now. Kareena was recently seen in Veere Di Wedding.

Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan: Having won the Padma Bhushan, two National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards, among other honours, Sharmila Tagore is one of the most respected personalities in the film fraternity. Married to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in 1969, Sharmila has three children - Saif, Saba and Soha. She has worked with her daughter, Soha Ali Khan, who is known for films like Rang De Basanti, 99, Tum Mile and Sangeeta Datta's Life Goes On, while Saba is a jewellery designer and prefers to stay away from the limelight.

Dimple Kapadia and Twinkle Khanna: After delivering hits like Bobby and Saagar, Dimple Kapadia managed to transform her bold image with films like Krantiveer, Gardish and Rudali. Dimple Kapadia married superstar Rajesh Khanna in 1973 and got separated in 1982. The couple's daughters, Twinkle and Rinke, tried their luck in Bollywood without much success. While Rinke disappeared from the limelight after appearing in a handful of films, Barsaat actress Twinkle Khanna moved to production, interior design and writing after failing on the acting front. She recently produced PadMan, which starred her husband actor Akshay Kumar.

Bhavna Pandey and Ananya Panday: Bhavna married actor Chunky Panday in 1998. The couple has two kids - Ananya and Rysa. While Ananya made a Bollywood debut this year with Student Of The Year 2, Rysa is still studying in school. Quite recently Bhavna had revealed a secret that Ananya is a honeymoon baby. While Bhavna and Chunky got hitched in January 1998, Ananya was born in October. "People were actually calculating if I conceived her before or after marriage. We still had to discover each other and then we had this beautiful baby. She has been with us from our first anniversary," said Bhavna.

Maheep Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor: Sanjay Kapoor's wife Maheep Kapoor runs her own jewellery store 'Satyani Fine Jewels' in India and UK as well. Married to actor Sanjay Kapoor, the couple has two kids - Shanaya and Jahaan. Shanaya, who will turn 20 in November 2019, has already started working in the world of showbiz. The star kid, who was said to make her Bollywood debut soon, kick-started her career in B-town, as an assistant director of Gunjan Saxena's biopic that stars her cousin Janhvi Kapoor.

Moon Moon, Raima and Riya Sen: Moon Moon Sen, the daughter of the legendary actress Suchitra Sen, has worked in Bollywood and Bengali films. She starred in the suspense-thriller 100 Days with Madhuri Dixit. She married Bharat Dev Varma in 1978 and the couple has two daughters Raima and Riya, who followed in her footsteps to enter filmdom. While Riya is compared to her mother for sharing a bold on-screen persona, Raima is likened to her grandmother Suchitra for her versatile acting prowess.

Hema Malini and Esha Deol: Starting her film career in 1968 with the Raj Kapoor-starrer Sapno Ka Saudagar, Hema Malini regaled movie buffs with roles in films like Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Dream Girl and Satte Pe Satta. Bollywood's Dreamgirl Hema Malini has tasted tremendous success in her film career. She married actor Dharmendra in 1979 and has two daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. While her daughter Esha failed to make a mark in Bollywood, Ahana chose to stay away from showbiz. Hema made a futile attempt to lift Esha Deol's career by directing her in Tell Me O Kkhuda. When the filmi tide worked against her, Esha turned to television and became a judge for the adventure-reality show Roadies X2.

Sarika, Shruti and Akshara Haasan: Sarika, who started her film career in Bollywood as a child actor in the 60s, achieved critical success by winning the National Film Award for Best Costume Design for Hey Ram, and the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Parzania. She married Kamal Haasan in 1998 and the couple got separated in 2004. Her daughters Shruti and Akshara have followed in their mother's footsteps and forayed into acting. Shruti is not only an accomplished actress but also has singing credits to her name. Akshara Haasan, who shares her mother Sarika's striking eyes, made her Bollywood debut with R Balki's Shamitabh in 2015 featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush.

Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor: Shobha Kapoor, who worked as an air hostess with British Airways, married actor Jeetendra in 1974. The couple has two children - Ekta and Tusshar. Shobha and Ekta's mother-daughter duo not only started the trend of 'K' serials but also revamped the television scene in India with their production company Balaji Telefilms. They gave hit TV serials like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Pavitra Rishta and Bade Acche Lagte Hain, among several others. They have also ventured into Bollywood with the company Balaji Motion Pictures which has films like The Dirty Picture, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Shootout at Lokhandwala, the Ragini MMS franchise, which was recently seen in a web series avatar, and the Kyaa Kool Hai Hum series to its credit.
