The third episode of Koffee With Karan 8 started with Karan Johar confirming that Ananya Panday and Sara Ali Khan dated the same person, Kartik Aaryan
Sara Ali Khan spoke about her breakup with Kartik Aaryan. She said, "I don't want to say that ya, it's all easy because then it comes across as a little more frivolous than it is. It isn't always easy. When you are involved with anybody, whether it's friends, professionally, or romantically, especially if I am, I get involved and invested. It is not like, ‘Oh yeah, it doesn’t really matter, whatever its today, whatever it's tomorrow'. It's not like that. It does affect you. But ultimately you have to rise beyond that."
Ananya Panday dropped hints, confirming her relationship with Aditya Roy Kapur. Karan asked Ananya if she's 'Gumraah in love'. The actress responded by saying, "Aashiqui aise hi hoti hai (such is love).” Gumraah and Aashiqui 2 were headlined by Aditya. When Karan prodded her further, she said, "Some things are private and special and it should be kept that way but I really want to talk about my professional life because no one’s talking about it." In spite of multiple attempts to make Ananya answer the question, she refused to give details. Instead, Ananya said that they were friends. Citing a dialogue from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan said, "Pyaar dosti hai," and she replied, "We’re best friends."
Ananya made a fun revelation. She said, "Sara has threatened me saying I’ll beat you up if you look at this person, on various occasions." Sara asked her ‘Who’. Ananya said that threat worked for her. "It has worked. I listened to this threat," she replied. While Sara laughed about the incident, Ananya said, "I had zero interest but she threatened me."
Sara busted the myth that she doesn't have designer stuff. Having said so, the actress shared, "It is not like I don't have designer bags and shoes. I don't believe in wearing designer clothes. And I also find it a bit ridiculous." She continued, "What I should be careful of is that, I shouldn't come across as lazy, I shouldn't come across as unkept, so maybe I needn't have oil in my hair, but I don't think I will ever say 'Oh, I need a blow dry I am going to the airport.' I find that ridiculous and I am not going to apologize for that either."
Ananya addressed the criticism she faced for her struggle remark during an interview. She said, "A little bit (haunted by past comments), because initially, I used to get really troubled by it. I would just be like 'Why are they still saying it? Why aren't they able to let go?' I think now I am somewhere at peace with it because I also know what I meant to say. But the thing with me is that my brain and my mouth have zero coordination. I am thinking of something else and something else comes out of my mouth. But I feel that because we have kind of grown up in the industry, like I started working when I was 18, so we have grown up in front of people's eyes. But it is a little weird because there are moments of our lives just permanently present for people to watch and judge even though we have changed so much from them."
Sara and Ananya spoke about their mothers being a strong influence. The former said, "I don't think overbearing is the right word. Like I said, in this world, it's all about balancing. That little reality, the mirror (pun intended, because I do look like her), that situation is necessary, for sure. If I can be extra honest and say, the only pressure of having mom as mom is she is the epitome of strength. She is just such a solid person that sometimes the fear of not matching the level of that strength just gets to me and sometimes it's also important in this life and in this job to have a sense of who you are."
Ananya opened up about her mother and said, "I don't think it's ever too much. Sometimes it's overwhelming for me that I will take my decisions on my own. But at the end of the day she is my moral compass. I think she's always there to guide me and tell me what's right or wrong. And even my father is an actor, my parents never thopoed (impose) things they strongly believed in. Initially, I did start out very young like they felt they needed to be involved a lot more. I don't know what decisions I would have taken if they were not there. It's a feeling for them also. How much we can let things go, it's for them as well to let their children out and let them go and it's scary if they make any mistakes."
Ananya revealed Sara took her to the Chowpatty at 3 am after a party. Recalling the incident, she said Sara got out of the car and told the cop, "Look, Ananya Panday is sitting in the car." Ananya shared they had a wonderful time at the beach. She added, "She has taken me and we have run into the water at 3 in the morning." When Karan asked why she said, "Look Ananya is sitting in the car," Sara replied, "I was just trying to be funny. What am I going to say?"
Ananya shared her mother Bhavana Pandey's lukewarm reaction to Liger. The film failed to work at the box office. Karan, who produced the film, said the team stands by it despite the criticism. Ananya mentioned how Karan and Bhavana advised her to sign Liger
