KIFF 2022: Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukerji attend opening ceremony

The 28th Kolkata International Film Festival, which was inaugrated on December 15, will take place till December 22. It is organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Thursday inaugurated the 28th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) by lighting the ceremonial lamp. An exhibition on the 80-year-old legendary actor's life and works will be showcased during the film festival, with the inaugural movie being 'Abhimaan'. A total of 183 movies will be screened in 10 theatres across the city from December 16-22

Rani and Shah Rukh Khan who have worked together in films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Chalte Chalte, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham were seated beside each other on the stage. Rani was honoured at the the Kolkata International Film Festival 2022 (KIFF) for her outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.

Khan won hearts with his speech at the inauguration. His speech on narrow mindedness on social media and keeping positivity alive amid row on Pathaan won over his admirers. Addressing a gathering on the occasion of the inauguration of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), Khan said cinema brings to the fore humanity's immense capacity for compassion, unity and brotherhood.

"Cinema is the best place to sustain a counter-narrative that speaks to the larger nature of humankind," Khan, the guest of honour at KIFF, said. The superstar also described cinema as a vehicle "for people of different colours, castes and religions to better understand each other". 

One of the most loved moments of the opening ceremony of KIFF was Shah Rukh greeting megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan by touching their feet. SRK also gave a tight hug to Big B
