Often referred to as 'The Venus of Indian Cinema', and 'Beauty with Tragedy', Madhubala was born on February 14, 1933. She was born in the house of Mumtaz Jahan Begum Dehlavi

Few people know that along with Hindi, Madhubala could also speak Urdu well, although she was not good at English. So she had a great desire to learn English

At the age of 9, Madhubala entered the Hindi film industry. In 1942, Madhubala featured in the film 'Basant'. She worked as a child artist in films like 'Basant', 'Dhanna Bhagat', 'Poojari', 'Phoolwari', and 'Rajputani'.

Madhubala featured as a lead actress in the film 'Neel Kamal' which also starred Raj Kapoor. She was only 14 back then.  Madhubala was credited as 'Mumtaz' in the film's credits. That was her original name. After 'Neel Kamal', she adopted Madhubala as her screen name

In her career spanning over 20 years, Madhubala featured in over 60 films and was one of the most in-demand actors and not just in India. The actress was renowed for her work beyond the boundaries of India. Through her career, Madhubala has starred in films like 'Neel Kamal', 'Mahal', 'Hanste Ansu', 'Mr. Has', 'Mrs. 55', 'Kaala Paani', 'Howrah Bridge', 'Chalati Ka Naam Gaadi'. And yes, how can one forget 'Mughal-e-Azam'

Considered one of the classic films of Bollywood, Mughal-e-Azam was in the limelight due to the relationship between Madhubala and Dilip Kumar. So much so that Dilip Kumar has admitted in his autobiography 'Dilip Kumar: The Substance and the Shadow' that yes, I was attracted to him as a co-star and as a person

In 1960, Madhubala married singer-actor Kishore Kumar. She was 27 years old at the time of marriage. After the wedding, Madhubala and Kishore Kumar went to London for their honeymoon, but it was during this time that they realized that they had only 2 years left in their lives

Madhubala and Kishore Kumar's marriage lasted for 9 years. The eternal beauty died in 1969 at the age of 36 due to a heart related illness
