Cannes 2024 Roundup: Women who put Indian cinema and fashion in the spotlight

India is celebrating women who scripted history at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Be it films or fashion, India bagged the spotlight at the French Riviera. Here's a roundup of all the glorious moments. (Pics AFP, Instagram)

Top Indian moments at 2024 Cannes Film Festival

Payal Kapadia's 'All We Imagine As Light' came home with the Grand Prix from the glittering awards event that brought the curtains down on the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

The star of the Indian-French co-production is Kani Kusruti, whose audiences outside Kerala would identify her as an actor from shows like 'The Killer Soup', 'Poacher', and 'Maharani', who stood in solidarity with Palestine with her watermelon purse. 

Chhaya Kadam, last seen bringing the house down with her stellar performance in 'Laapataa Ladies' and 'Madgaon Express' wore her late mother's saree and nath (nose ring) for her debut. 

'Shameless' actor Anasuya Sengupta became the first Indian to win a top acting award at the Cannes Film Festival. She took home the Best Actress award at the Un Certain Regard segment. 

British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri's film 'Santosh' was screened at the Un Certain Regard section. It stars Shahana Goswami in the lead role and follows the story of a newly widowed woman who inherits her husband's job as a police constable in rural northern India.

Assam's renowned actress Aimee Baruah walked the red carpet wearing traditional Assamese attire, a muga silk mekhela sador adorned with ancient Assamese designs such as Goj Bota and Gam Kharu. 

Veteran actress Ratna Pathak Shah attended the screening of 'Manthan' starring Naseeruddin Shah. She set an example on the red carpet. As per reports, she upcycled a lime green saree she’d worn multiple times and paired it with a lavender blouse and jacket. 

Actor Prateik Babbar filled in for his later mother Smita Patil, who starred in ‘Manthan’ by wearing her scarf on the red carpet. 

The short film 'Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know' bagged the first prize under the La Cinef category. The film was made by FTII students.

Hollywood icon Meryl Streep, who was honoured with the prestigious Honorary Palme d'Or, accessorized with a pair of exquisite earrings crafted by Indian designer Hanut Singh.

American singer, actress, and television personality, Kelly Rowland stunned in a creation by Indian designer Gaurav Gupta. She wore the Mudra cast metal bralette and jersey drape cape at Cannes, from Aaronaham, SS'24 Paris Couture.

Preity Zinta presented Santosh Sivan with the prestigious Pierre Angenieux ExcelLens in Cinematography award wearing a blush pink saree by Seema Gujral.
