Boman Irani was born on 2 December 1959 in Mumbai. He lost his fther six months before his birth. It was his mother who encouraged him to watch movies at the Alexander Cinema to observe theor cinematography and art. He would go to the movies daily after school 

Before the movies, Irani was a waiter at The Taj Hotel. He also managed the bakery shop that belonged to his mother. Irani also dabbled in professional photograpy before acting. H had also clicked pictures of Sushmita Sen after her win as Miss Universe

It was at his bakery shop that he met his wife Zenobia. The couple tied the knot in 1985 and eventually became parents to two boys- Kayoze Irani and Danesh Irani. Boman often shares pictures of his family members on his Instagram handle and also shares stories behind them. 

Following the footsteps of his father, Kayoze, too joined the film industry. After making his debut with Dharma Productions's film Student Of The Year in 2012, Kayoze continues to work behind the camera for Karan Johar's production house. In one of his Instagram post, describing his father, Kayoze wrote, "If you could find a man, who would lift you up and protect you. If you could find someone who would throw you into the deep end, but still protect you. If you can find a person, who just has everlasting love for you. Or find someone who knows you, as well as you do. If you soar so high, but know that someone is standing down there to protect you. If you could find a man who loves you, more than anyone else could. Only then, would you have found a father, like I do. Happy Birthday dad. I love you"
