Amitabh Bachchan has turned a year older today. The superstar who turns 81. Having been an active part of the Indian film industry for over 50 years, Bachchan is one of the most loved and respected actors of all times.

Amitabh Bachchan was initially named Inquilaab, which was heavily inspired from the phrase 'Inquilab Zindabad' 

However, his father and widely celebrated poet Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan changed his name to Amitabh, which translates to "the light that will never die".

Amitabh began his journey into acting as one of seven protagonists in the 1969 film Saath Hindustani

While the film did not have a huge opening weekend. His early films included Chupke Chupke and Abhimaan, and after a few years, people began to talk about him as the new king of the film industry.

His breakthrough came in 1971, when he played a supporting role in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Anand. Despite the presence of Rajesh Khanna, the reigning superstar of the late 1960s and early 1970s, Bachchan stood out as Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee.
