WAR (2019): Released on this day last year, War emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2019. The Siddharth Anand actioner featured an intense rivalry between Kabir (Hrithik) and his student Khalid (Tiger). In War, Hrithik and Tiger were pitted against each other. The two were seen doing some death-defining stunts in the film where the two stars had an intense showdown in the climax.
Saudagar (1991): This Subhash Ghai-directorial was a Silver Jubilee success during its release. Starring Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar, the story of Saudagar is based on two childhood best friends who turn sworn enemies. Saudagar also starred Manisha Koirala, Vivek Mushran, Amrish Puri, Gulshan Grover and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.
Sholay (1975): Ramesh Sippy's greatest hit and Indian cinema's one of the legendary movies, Sholay was about two criminals, Jai and Veeru (Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra), who are hired by a retired police officer (Sanjeev Kumar) to capture the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan). Though all its characters including Gabbar Singh, Thakur and Basanti, are now evergreen icons, it's male lead Jai and Veeru, have become benchmarks for "ideal friendship".
Ajnabee (2001): This Abbas-Mustan's crime-thriller starring Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar and Bipasha Basu. Bobby and Kareena play a new couple, who move to Switzerland. They make friends with their new neighbours Akshay and Bipasha. However, things take an ugly turn and Deol gets accused of the murder but flees from the authorities in order to prove himself innocent.
Andaz Apna Apna (1994): Rajkumar Santoshi's cult-classic saw two slackers - Aamir Khan and Salman Khan competing for the affections of an heiress, inadvertently become her protectors from an evil criminal.
Karan Arjun (1995): Rakesh Roshan-directorial was reincarnation family drama, where brothers Karan (Salman Khan) and Arjun (Shah Rukh Khan) reincarnate in the different part of the country. But the faith of their mother (Rakhee Gulzar) brings them together in order to avenge their deaths.
Khal Nayak (1993): Another Subhash Ghai-directorial, this 'chor-police' drama featured Ballu (Sanjay Dutt), a wanted criminal and inspector Ram (Jackie Shroff).
Mohra (1994): Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty fight it out like never before in this action, drama, thriller, directed by Rajiv Rai. The movie was declared blockbuster! The film also starred Raveena Tandon, Naseeruddin Shah, Gulshan Grover.
Ram Lakhan (1989): Another Subhai Ghai's family drama, this Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor film was out-and-out vengeance drama. The movie focused on the brothers Ram and Lakhan, who were the stark opposite of each other. While Ram (Jackie Schroff) is an honest police officer, Lakhan (Anil Kapoor) is an easily tempted dreamer. The movie, which marked one of the most popular on-screen jodis of the 80s - Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff, went on to become the second highest-grossing Indian film of the 1980s.
Suhaag (1994): Directed by Kuku Kohli (veteran actress Aruna Irani's husband), the action-drama starring Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar's Suhaag was one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of the year. Did you know this was the first film where Ajay and Akshay shared screen space?
Tu Chor Main Sipahi (1996): After Yeh Dillagi and Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan reunited for this action-dramedy. A police officer (Akshay) and a master thief (Saif) join forces in order to free a village from the clutches of an evil landowner, the film went on to become a hit!
Gunday (2014): The film is a story about two friends Bala and Bikram played by Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, respectively. Based in Kolkata during the city's most unsettled period in the 70s and this Ali Abbas Zafar-directorial deals with the inseparable lives of Bikram and Bala as they go from being small-time coal thieves to the most powerful black marketing mafia men.
