Did you know singer Neha Bhasin was a member of the all-girl band Viva?

Pop singer and former member of the girl band Viva, Neha Bhasin celebrates her 38th birthday on November 18. Born in New Delhi, Neha Bhasin studied at Frank Anthony Public School. (All pictures/Neha Bhasin's Instagram account)

Neha Bhasin won her first-ever singing competition at the age of nine when she sang Mariah Carey's song 'Hero'. She has also taken vocal classical training from Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. Neha was studying at Lady Sri Ram College when she auditioned for Coke [V] Popstars in 2001. She won the competition to form India's first all-girl band along with three other girls.

Do you remember this gang?! Viva, India's first girl band, comprised singers Neha Bhasin, Mahua Kamat, Pratichee Mohapatra, and Anushka Manchanda. Though they only came out with two albums, they still became quite popular for their songs like Jaago Zara and Hum Naye Geet Sunaye.

Neha Bhasin tied the knot with Sameer Uddin, a music composer, in Tuscany, Italy on October 23, 2016.

Neha and her husband Sameer knew each other for a long time before they got hitched. "I have known Sameer since we were teenagers, but we never really connected back then. Music brought us together four years back and our friendship was effortless," Bhasin had told IANS.

Neha Bhasin met her husband during the recording of the romantic single Tera Mera, composed by him. She further told IANS, "He's very supportive of my work and more so of who I am as a person. We dated and now are blessed to have each other in our lives."

Looking at Neha's Instagram pictures, it's clear that the singer loves colours! Her Insta feed is full of bright and vivid pictures that feature her in vibrant outfits and colourful hair.

In a chat with mid-day, Neha spoke about whether a Viva reunion is possible. She said, "We're not 20 anymore and have moved on. I wouldn't have time to be part of a band. However, we meet often and did so two years ago. Then, we sang Jaago Zara and realised that we still sound great together. But, we could release a single together, just for fun."

Besides pop album songs, Neha Bhasin has lent her voice to a number of films. She has crooned songs like Kuchh Khaas (Fashion), Aakhein Milayenge Darr Se (Neerja), Jag Ghoomeya (Sultan), Dil Diyan Gallan (Tiger Zinda Hai), and more recently, Chashni (Bharat).

"You will hear a little bit of folk in the song from Sultan. I mean it's not a folk song, but the composition is a little bit like that... It has a Rajasthani touch," Bhasin told IANS over the phone from Mumbai.

Speaking about how folk music has played a significant part in her life, Neha shared, "Folk music was a part of my lifestyle at home. My grandmother was a beautiful singer, and our choti nani sends me voice notes of songs that I should work on even today. Folk music brings me closer to my family."

Neha Bhasin made headlines some time ago when she took to social media calling out Anu Malik for making her uncomfortable several times.

"We do live in a very sexist world. Anu Malik is a predator, I too have run away from his strange moves when I was 21. I didn't let myself get into a sticky situation beyond him lying on a sofa in front of me talking about my eyes in a studio," she tweeted.

Neha Bhasin told mid-day that she and her team have been trying to bring Punjabi folk music into the mainstream. She said, "We have been striving to bring Punjabi folk into mainstream film music by keeping the lyrics traditional and not tampering with them at all. The idea was to keep the spirit of the melody intact while giving it a new musical narrative."
