It all started off in the year 1994 when a then-relatively unknown teenager named Sushmita Sen entered the very prestigious ‘Miss India’ competition. After sending her entry to the organizers, she had withdrawn it after she heard of a certain ‘Aishwarya Rai’ also participating in the contest. It was her mother, on whose insistence that Sushmita participated. And as the contest progressed, Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai progressed ahead, walking neck-to-neck to the finals. And when the results were announced, everyone’s heart just about skipped a beat. The winner was none other than today’s birthday girl Sushmita Sen, who had surpassed Aishwarya Rai by a whisker!

After Miss India, as a natural progression, Sushmita Sen went onto represent India at the extremely prestigious Miss Universe platform. Thanks to her wit, presence of mind, grace and poise, Sushmita walked her way into the finals, wherein she met Colombia’s Carolina Gomez and Venezuela’s Minorka Mercado as her competitors to the crown. Yet again, Sushmita Sen answered the judge’s question with extreme confidence and grace that, she brought home the much-coveted Miss Universe crown!

In the year 1996, Sushmita Sen made her Bollywood debut with the Psychological thriller film ‘Dastak’, in which she shared the screen space with Mukul Dev and Sharad Kapoor. Her performance in the film made many stand up and take notice of her acting prowess. This was followed by many Bollywood films that established her as an actress.

We are sure that, you all must have been eagerly waiting for Sushmita Sen’s STUNNING photo, which we had mentioned in the headline. The latest development on Sushmita Sen’s ‘repertoire’ is her giving her nod for playing the role of Shreegauri Sawant, who is India’s most celebrated transgender. At a time when heroines are fighting shy of playing anything offbeat, here is Sushmita Sen, who did not think twice before saying yes to the role of a transgender. Sushmita had posted the adjoining photograph from her film ‘Taali’, which is a biopic of Shreegauri Sawant.

Around the year 2020, thanks to the advent of OTT platforms, Sushmita Sen made her ‘digital debut’ with Disney Plus Hotstar's ‘Aarya’. Her performance became one of the most talked about in the media as well as social media.

This photo, which has Sushmita Sen with her grandmother, was posted by Sushmita on social media. She captioned the photo as, “When a picture itself is a blessing.
