5 movies and series that retold the horrific 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks

In 2008, on November 26, 10 members of a terrorist organization from Pakistan carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks in Mumbai. The terror lasted four days. A total of 175 people died including nine attackers and more than 300 were wounded. The terrorists infiltrated places like Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Taj hotel, Cama Hospital, Leopold Cafe, and others. It's been 14 years since the attack and the memories of the event continue to haunt the city and the people who witnessed and survived it. Major (2022) 

Starri Indian biographical action film directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka with story and screenplay by Adivi Sesh. Based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was martyred in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, it stars Sesh as Unnikrishnan and co-stars Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Revathi, Murali Sharma, and Anish Kuruvilla. Major is directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka and focuses on the life of Major Unnikrishnan who was martyred after saving occupants at the Taj Hotel.

Phantom (2015)

Directed by Kabir Khan, this fictional tale of Daniyal (Saif Ali Khan), a disgraced Indian soldier, and Nawaz (Katrina Kaif), who works for an American security agency. The two face many trials and tribulations while they go on a dangerous mission to kill 26/11 suspects. The screenplay of the film was written in coordination with author Hussain Zaidi's book Mumbai Avengers on the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Mumbai Diaries 26/11  (2021)

is one of the most engaging series to have been released in India in recent times. Created by Nikkhil Advani and Nikhil Gonsalves, the Amazon Prime Video Original series Mumbai Diaries 26/11 is a medical drama with its premise set in a government hospital in Mumbai and how the medical fraternity deals with the 26/11 crisis while themselves being under attack. A mix of fact and fiction, the show focuses on the human side of the night of the most horrific terror act the city has had witnessed.

The Attacks of 26/11 (2013)

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, this 2013 film is based on the book 'Kasab: The Face of 26/11' by Rommel Rodrigues. The book is about Ajmal Kasab, a perpetrator of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack and the only terrorist to be caught alive by the police. The film captured the gut-wrenching horror the city and its people went through. Nana Patekar essayed on the role of Rakesh Maria, former Police Commissioner of Mumbai.

Hotel Mumbai (2018)

Hotel Mumbai is a 2018 action thriller film directed by Anthony Maras and co-written by Maras and John Collee. An Indian-Australian-American co-production, it is inspired by the 2009 documentary Surviving Mumbai about the 2008 Mumbai attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in India. It revolves around a hotel staff who risks everything to keep their guests safe. The film stars Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Jason Isaacs, Suhail Nayyar, Nagesh Bhosle, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
