Born on February 20, 1988, as Nafisa Khan in London, Jiah was the daughter of Ali Rizvi Khan, an Indian-American and yesteryear Bollywood actress Rabiya Amin, most remembered for Tahir Hussain's 'Dulha Bikta Hai'. (All pictures/mid-day archives, Youtube)

Nafisa Khan changed her name to Jiah after Angelina Jolie's movie Gia (1998).

After completing her A-levels in film studies and literature in London, Jiah Khan studied at the Lee Strasberg Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. However, she quit midway upon receiving a movie offer from Mumbai.

At 16, Jiah was offered the lead role in Mahesh Bhatt's 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha' (2004). However, she felt the role was too mature for her and backed out, which ultimately landed in Dia Mirza's kitty.

Jiah eventually made her Bollywood debut with the controversial film Nishabd (2007) starring Amitabh Bachchan and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The film caused a furore for depicting an illicit affair between an older man and a teenage girl, which drew comparisons to the controversial 1962 Hollywood classic Lolita.

Nevertheless, Jiah Khan was noted for her confidence, attitude and sex appeal and got a 'Best Debutant' nomination for her performance in Nishabd.

In 2008, Jiah Khan appeared alongside Aamir Khan in the box office hit Ghajini. The film was a remake of A R Murugadoss' 2005 film of the same name which starred 'Raktha Charitra' star Surya.

A few months before Ghajini's release, a considerable amount of media reported that Jiah Khan is Aamir Khan's step-sister, as Aamir's father had worked with Jiah's mother Rabiya in Dulha Bikta Hai. However, soon things were clarified and rumours were put to rest.

In 2010, Jiah Khan was signed for Ken Ghosh's Chance Pe Dance starring Shahid Kapoor. However, despite shooting for a significant portion for the film, she later was replaced by Genelia D'Souza.

In the same year, Jiah was seen as a supporting actress in the hit comedy . The movie directed by Sajid Khan comprised a huge star cast, which included Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Riteish Deshmukh and Lara Dutt, where Jiah played Akki's wife. Unfortunately, the film turned out to be Jiah's last film appearance.

On June 3, 2013, Jiah Khan was found dead in her flat in Juhu, Mumbai, after hanging herself. The case is under probe by CBI.

Jiah Khan passed away at the age of 25.
