Mumbai Rains: City faces water-logging, building collapse; couples and kids enjoy

Rains lashed Mumbai over the weekend and continued throughout Monday leading to water-logging in many low-lying areas, road cave-ins as well as building collapses in the city. However, on the flip-side, children and couples made the most of this time to enjoy themselves. Here is a look at Mumbai in the rains in pictures

India Meteorological Department (IMD) data has revealed that less than 25 per cent of the country received normal or excess rainfall till now, with the weatherman on Sunday saying that monsoon activity has revived over the weekend and is making a steady advance. A major portion of the wall of a building compound wall of Loyd Estates, next to Dosti acres at Antop Hill collapsed on Monday morning. After the wall came down it took along 12 parked cars leaving 5 more cars, hanging off the edge. The BMC and fire department has vacated the entire C wing, which houses senior lawyers, judges and businessmen. PIC/ SHADAB KHAN

An officer from the disaster control room of the BMC, said, 'When the cars caved in because of the effect that the wall collapse took on the next door building, the fire and our officials took a precautionary measure and thus vacated two wings there.'. PIC/SHADAB KHAN

An IMD official explained, 'Synoptic analysis indicates that the offshore trough at mean sea level runs from south Gujarat coast to Kerala coast. A cyclonic circulation lies over south Konkan and its neighbourhood and another cyclonic circulation lies over north Konkan and adjoining south Gujarat.' PIC/ PRADEEP DHIVAR
