Adnan Sami joined the social media discussion on the ongoing ripped jeans controversy. The singer posted a photograph of a man whose belly was visible in a tight-fitted shirt, and behind him was a girl wearing ripped jeans.

"Since we're so concerned about ‘everything' regardless of whether it's our business or not, can we also show concern for ripped shirts please?" asked the singer. His hilarious rejoinder left netizens in splits. "That's referred to as air conditioning," a fan replied.

The controversy began when Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat criticised women for wearing ripped jeans and questioned about the values they will impart to their children. This led to a protest from opposition parties as well as people on social media. Rawat said that due to a lack of values, youngsters today are following strange fashion trends and consider themselves to be big shots after wearing jeans ripped at the knees. Women also follow such trends.

His comment drew sharp criticism from social media with several celebrities reacting to his statement. Actor Gul Panag posted a photo of her donning a pair of ripped jeans. Author Ruchi Kokcha also joined the trend and tweeted a photo.

Actress Bhumika Chheda wrote: "Ripped jeans anyday better than ripped brains! #RippedJeansTwitter."

Kangana Ranaut joined the debate by explaining how to wear it ‘right'. She posted a picture and wrote, "Make sure the coolness quotient is of this magnitude, so that it looks like your style, not your state of a homeless beggar, who hasn't got allowance from parents... most young people look like that these days."

Jaya Bachchan too expressed her disappointment over Tirath Singh Rawat's ripped jeans comment, saying this is the "mindset that encourages crimes against women".

"Such statements don't befit a chief minister. Those on higher posts must think before making public statements. You say such things in today's times. Will you decide who's cultured and who's not on the basis of clothes?" Rajya Sabha MP from Samajwadi Party, Jaya Bachchan said. "It's bad mindset and encourages crimes against women," she added.
